Trump to Take Control of DC

CAPITOL CONTROL: President Trump announced a news conference today in which it is expected that he will announce taking control of Washington DC. The Washington Post reports that he’s considering calling up the National Guard.

The administration has already sent out FBI agents in overnight shifts to help local law enforcement prevent carjackings and violent crime in the city, the Post reports

Trump wrote on his Truth Social that: “I’m going to make our Capital safer and more beautiful than it ever was before. The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital. The Criminals, you don’t have to move out. We’re going to put you in jail where you belong. It’s all going to happen very fast, just like the Border. We went from millions pouring in, to ZERO in the last few months. This will be easier — Be prepared! There will be no ‘MR. NICE GUY.’ We want our Capital BACK.”

Trump’s claim of rampant crime in DC was stirred by the beating of a DOGE employee in a carjacking. Actually crime is dramatically down, according to the DC police.

In another rant about “Crime and ‘Beautification,’” Trump wrote about the $3 billion renovation at the Federal reserve and; “I will take care of our cherished Capital, and we will make it, truly, GREAT AGAIN! Before the tents, squalor, filth, and Crime, it was the most beautiful Capital in the World. It will soon be that again.”

US WETS ITS BEAK: US-based chipmakers Nvidia and AMD have agreed to pay the federal government 15 percent of their revenue from sales of artificial intelligence chips in China, an unusual arrangement that some experts say may be unconstitutional. The Constitution prohibits taxes on exports.

The cut given to the  US government is a prerequisite for the companies to obtaining export licenses for China, The Washington Post reports.

Nvidia issued an uncritical statement supporting the arrangement saying, “America cannot repeat 5G and lose telecommunication leadership. America’s AI tech stack can be the world’s standard if we race.”

THE MESS WITH TEXAS: The Texas legislature is convening again today for another attempt at voting on a congressional redistricting map that would give them five more members of the House of Representatives. They’ve been unable to vote because the Democrats left the state to deny a quorum for voting.

Texas Republicans have asked other states to enforce warrants for the arrest of their missing legislators. That’s not likely to happen.

THE WAR ROOM: Israel killed two Al Jazeera correspondents and three photographers in a targeted strike. Israel claimed that Al Jazeera’s Anas al-Sharif was a cell leader for Hamas, an accusation that had been long denied.

The military accused al-Sharif of being “responsible for advancing rocket attacks against Israeli civilians” and soldiers. Israel for the first time has taken immediate responsibility for killing journalists.

Al Jazeera called the strike “targeted assassination.” The director of Al Shifa hospital told The New York Times that an Israeli drone hit a tent housing the journalists in front of the hospital in Gaza City. Al Jazeera called the strike “a desperate attempt to silence voices in anticipation of the occupation of Gaza.”

THE SHOOTING GALLERY: The man who died last week after shooting up the headquarters of the Centers for Disease control in Atlanta had blamed the COVID-19 vaccine for making him depressed and suicidal. It’s not certain yet whether the shooter, Patrick Joseph White, was killed by police or his own hand.

White killed one police officer before he died.

THE SPIN RACK: Zohran Mamdani. The semi-socialist Democratic nominee for mayor of New York, announced that he’s going to campaign in all five boroughs making opposition to President Trump a central message, highlighting how he believes Trump is hurting the city. — Record-setting rain caused intense flooding in and around the Milwaukee area starting on Saturday night. Despite flooded streets, damage to buildings, and water rescues, no deaths were reported. — Australia will recognize a Palestinian state, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said today, joining the leaders of France, Britain and Canada. — President Trump on his Truth Social called Pulitzer-winning economist Paul Krugman a “Deranged BUM” for his criticism of Trump tariff policies.

BELOW THE FOLD: You’ve got mail. America Online, one of the original internet providers, announced that it is ending its dialup service on September 30th. The shock of the announcement is that there’s still dialup service.

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
