Texas Death Toll Rises

SWEPT AWAY: Responders are searching flood debris in Texas with little hope of finding anyone alive after five days. The number of confirmed dead is now 105 with 27 of them children and counselors from Camp Mystic on the Guadalupe River. The camp’s director and owner, Dick Eastland, is among the dead.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is sending a 50-person search and rescue team that includes firefighters, paramedics, doctors, engineers and others, to Kerr County where 84 of the deaths occurred.

Authorities say flood alerts began to go out at 1 am the night of the disaster but people slept through them or never received them. One man said water was already in his house before he received an alert.

People gathered last night at Travis Park in downtown San Antonio for a candlelight vigil to remember the dead.

President Trump is tentatively scheduled to visit the disaster area on Friday.

THE 25% SOLUTION: Never one to stop and take a breath in his reign of shock and awe, President Trump announced yesterday that he intends to place a 25 percent tariff on goods imported from Japan, South Korea, and other countries in a revival of his trade war.

Trump also shared the rates to be faced by some other countries: 40 percent for Myanmar and Laos, 30 percent for South Africa and 25 percent for Malaysia.

Stocks tumbled after Trump posted his letters of notification to the leaders of  Myanmar, South Africa, Malaysia, Japan and the other countries.

Trump’s notifications carried a threat. He wrote to the Prime Minister of Cambodia, for example, that, “If for any reason you decide to raise your tariffs, then, whatever the number you choose to raise them by will be added on to the 36% that we charge.”

President Trump says his tariffs are designed to force manufacturing back to the US. Here are some of the numbers for additional tariffs and the country’s share of US imports prepared by The NY  Times.

Country     New Tariff     Import Share

Japan                  +25%.                  4.5%

South Korea      +25%                   4.0%

Thailand             +36%                   1.9 %

Malaysia             +25%                   1.6%

Indonesia           +32%                   1%

Thailand, for instance, exports to the US about $66 billion worth of electrical and electronic equipment, machinery, and rubber products. Japan exports vehicles, machinery, and electronic circuits.

THE EPSTEIN FILES: The Justice Department yesterday released a memo undermining claims by Attorney General Pam Bondi and others that the disgraced financier Jeffery Epstein was murdered in jail and had kept a “client list” of men who had enjoyed the pleasures of young women in the Epstein bullpen.

Epstein had been accused of trafficking in underage women for company with rich men and celebrities when he hanged himself in jail.

Although Donald Trump in his younger years had been photographed partying with Epstein and young women, “This systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list,’” the memo said. “There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions. We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties.”

This came despite the claim by Bondi that she was in possession of a binder that contained the Epstein client list. Back in February when she was asked about the list, Bondi said, “It’s sitting on my desk right now to review.”

LA MIGRA: Border Patrol agents on horseback, in armored vehicles, and some on foot in full combat gear carrying rifles yesterday swept through MacArthur Park in Los Angeles in a full show force. Mayor Karen Bass showed up in the middle of the operation calling it a “political stunt.”

The sweep disrupted a children’s summer camp. “What I saw in the park today looked like a city under siege,” Bass told reporters following the confrontation. “It’s outrageous and un-American to have armed vehicles in our American parks.”

It’s uncertain whether anyone was detained. A Border Patrol  senior officer told local Fox News, “The federal government is not leaving LA. … The federal government does not work for Karen Bass. We’re going to be here until that mission is accomplished.”

THE WAR ROOM:  The Pentagon said that it will send more defensive weapons to Ukraine at the request of President Trump, reversing a  decision just a week ago.  In a statement, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the weapons would “ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace and ensure that the killing stops.”

Russia has increased. Its attacks on Ukraine despite President Trump’s appeals for peace. Speaking to reporters at The White House Trump said Ukraine must be able to defend itself. “They’re getting hit very hard now,” he said.

Meeting at the White House yesterday President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu talked about relocating Palestinians out of Gaza and giving them a “better future” in neighboring nations.

“If people want to stay, they can stay, but if they want to leave, they should be able to leave,” Netanyahu said. Trump said,  “We’ve had great cooperation from … surrounding countries, great cooperation from every single one of them. So something good will happen.”

THE SPIN RACK: The Trump administration is ending temporary legal protections for tens of thousands of migrants from Honduras and Nicaragua, citing improved conditions in both countries. Trump also revoked protections for people from those countries during his first term. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said in a statement, “Temporary Protected Status was designed to be just that—temporary.”

BELOW THE FOLD: Documents filed in the divorce petition between actress/porn model/former Charlie Sheen wife Denise Richards and her estranged husband Aaron Phypers say that the couple’s monthly expenses include: Food,$25,000; Clothes; $20,000; Rent, $18,000; Utilities, $8000; Laundry, $5,000; Transportation, $1500; Phone, $500.

The laundry and clothing bills are a mystery because Richards makes $250,000 a month on OnlyFans not wearing clothes.

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
