Revenge Killing, “So Sue Me”, Home Cooked

Flashpoint: The body of an abducted Arab teenager was found in a Jerusalem forest this morning in what may be a killing in revenge for the murder of three Israeli teenagers. The discovery came only about an hour after the 16-year-old boy was seen being forced into a car. The Israeli government says the killing will be investigated, but rock-throwing teenagers have already clashed with police. Tires were set on fire and rail line passenger shelters smashed in protest.

Come Get Me: President Obama has taken to openly taunting congressional Republicans for refusing to act on his agenda and complaining that he uses executive action to get things done. Speaking in front of Washington’s deteriorating Key Bridge yesterday, the president said, “It’s not crazy, it’s not socialism. It’s not the imperial presidency — no laws are broken.  We’re just building roads and bridges like we’ve been doing for the last, I don’t know, 50, 100 years.”

The president called for Congress to renew the Highway Trust Fund, which pays for roads and bridges across the country and, he said, creates about 700,000 jobs.  “It’s not that hard, Obama said,  Middle-class families can’t wait for Republicans in Congress to do stuff.  So sue me.”

Disappointment: American soccer came to the brink but once again fell out yesterday in the World Cup’s round of 16 teams. It may have been the most-watched soccer game in American history, with millions tuning in.The US battled undefeated Belgium into overtime, but ended up losing 2-1, ending their shot. With Belgium taking the attack to the Americans all day, goalie Tim Howard had 16 saves, the most in a World Cup game since 1996.

All Business: JPMorgan chief executive Jamie Dimon, who steered his company into troubled times and billions of dollars in fines, announced he has throat cancer and will begin treatment immediately. Dimon says the cancer was caught early and that his prognosis is good. If it were only that easy for his bank.

The Obit Page: Director Paul Mazursky, who analyzed and satirized the sexual and social upheavals of the 60s and 70s, has died in Los Angeles at age 84. His movies included “Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice,” “Blume in Love,” and “An Unmarried Woman.”

His movies were sharp commentaries on love, morals and a changing society. “Bob & Carol” was about wife swapping; “Unmarried” about divorce and finding new life; “Blume” about redemption and emptiness. Sex, drugs, and alcohol always co-starred. Mazursky had his finger on the pulse of America in a time of turmoil.

Rehab: Actor Shia LaBeouf has entered alcohol rehab just a week after being thrown out of a New York performance of “Cabaret” for erratic behavior and spewing obscenities. Comedian Robin Williams checked into rehab in Minnesota for his continuing alcoholism.

It's Been Said

"In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate, and I should have, no excuses."

-Andrew Cuomo, resigning as governor of New York after accusations of sexual harassment
