Iran Holds Nukefuel, Jon Stewart Replacement

Nuketalks: Iran has backed away from a major element in a proposed nuclear agreement, refusing to give up and ship some of their atomic fuel out of the country. For months the Iranians had tentatively agreed to ship nuclear fuel for safekeeping in Russia. Iran has spent years and billions of dollars stockpiling nuclear fuel, which could be used for nuclear weapons.

The announcement is likely to feed the doubts of Congress, Israel, and Arab countries that have questioned the effectiveness of the nuclear deal under negotiation. Tomorrow is the deadline to reach an outline for the agreement.

Fake News: After only three appearances on the show, a biracial South African comedian named Trevor Noah will replace Jon Stewart on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.” Stewart had previously announced he’s leaving.

The 31-year-old Noah is an unknown and his appointment is a big gamble. He performed in the US from 2010 to 2012 and that’s when Stewart noticed him.

The president of Comedy Central said there’s no replacing the enormously popular Stewart. Michele Ganeless said, “We talked to women. We talked to men. We found in Trevor the best person for the job.”

World: The co-pilot believed to have intentionally crashed a Germanwings jetliner was treated for suicidal tendencies years before he became a pilot, investigators say. A spokesman said, “In the following period, and until recently, further doctor’s visits took place, resulting in sick notes without any suicidal tendencies or aggression against others being recorded.” What those sick notes are for, they aren’t saying.

So far searchers say they have found DNA strands of 80 of the 150 people who died on the plane. A German newspaper reports that some of the remains include those of the co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz.

Nation: A shooting took place this morning after an SUV tried to ram the gates at the National Security Agency headquarters in Ft. Meade, Md. One person is dead. Authorities say it does not appear to be an act of terrorism.

>Searchers yesterday found two bodies in the rubble of three collapsed apartment buildings in New York’s East Village. One was identified as Nicholas Figueroa, 23, who had gone to the Sushi Park restaurant for lunch the day of the explosion.

A busboy named Moises Isreal Locon Yac has also been missing, but the second body has yet to be identified.

Freedom Beat: Apple CEO Tim Cook writes in the Washington Post about Indiana’s new religious freedom law saying, “There’s something very dangerous happening in states across the country.” Cook writes that similar bills in states across the country “rationalize injustice by pretending to defend something many of us hold dear.”

Critics of such bills say they will be used to justify discrimination against gay people. Yesterday on ABC News Indiana Gov. Mike Pence dodged repeated questions by George Stephanopoulos about whether Indiana’s law would protect discrimination on religious grounds. “Yes or no?” Pence wouldn’t say.

The Final Four: Michigan State beat Louisville in a 76-70 overtime-thriller yesterday. March Madness slips into April next Saturday as Kentucky meets Wisconsin, and Michigan State plays Duke. Final game, Monday April 6th. Kentucky is just two games away from a 39-0 perfect season.

Not a Crook: Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus yesterday blasted Hillary Clinton for wiping clean her personal email server. Priebus said in a statement, “Even Nixon didn’t destroy the tapes.” Yeah, and look what happened to him.

It's Been Said

"In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate, and I should have, no excuses."

-Andrew Cuomo, resigning as governor of New York after accusations of sexual harassment
