Erasing Obama, Where are the Kids?

Happy Birthday: It’s the Fourth of July and we are loaded with news from the MAGAphone.

Affirmative Reaction: The Trump administration is withdrawing Obama-era guidance encouraging schools and colleges to promote diversity in admissions.

The departments of Justice and Education announced that they have retracted several letters and memos that advised schools on how they could legally consider race.

The move set off alarm among education and diversity advocates. “By encouraging schools to not consider race during the admissions process or potentially in any other circumstance, President Trump is undermining the benefits of diversity in schools and accelerating the socio-economic divide,” NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson said in a statement.

The Supreme Court has upheld the legality of considering race in admissions even while narrowing the ways in which it can be done.

In its quest to erase the Obama presidency, Attorney Gen. Jeff Sessions also says the Justice Department has identified 24 guidance documents targeted for repeal including ones that deal with home loans, fair employment, refugees’ right to work, and the jailing of juveniles.

No Information: The Department of Health and Human Services, which is in charge of immigrant children separated from their parents, has gone more than a week without giving an accounting of how many of the kids are still waiting to be re-united.

CNN reports that while HHS is under court order to put parents and kids back together, the agency is publishing only the much larger figure of all children being held, including unaccompanied minors. They are refusing to give the number of kids yanked from their parents still held in baby jails.

HHS said in a statement written in governmentspeak that, “While we understand the interest in detailed breakdowns of this information, our mission has been and remains to provide every minor transferred to HHS, regardless of the circumstances, with quality and age-appropriate care and a speedy and safe release to a sponsor.”

Translated: They won’t answer the question.

Fake News: President Trump seized on a bogus story spread by Fox News and tweeted the following: “Just out that Obama Administration granted citizenship, during the terrible Iran Deal negotiation, to 2,500 Iranians – including to government officials. How big (and bad) is that?”

It’s bad because there’s no record of any such thing happening.

In an online article, CNN’s Oliver Darcy explained the trail of falsehood. “The article, written by Chris Irvine, a Fox News senior editor, cited an Iranian news agency that cited an Iranian newspaper that quoted the single Iranian cleric, who said the Obama administration provided citizenship to 2,500 unidentified Iranians during nuclear deal negotiations.”

Meanwhile Trump keeps up his campaign against the press. He tweeted, “The Washington Post is constantly quoting ‘anonymous sources’ that do not exist. Rarely do they use the name of anyone because there is no one to give them the kind of negative quote that they are looking for. They are a disgrace to journalism but then again, so are many others!”

Like Fox News.

Law and Order: Thousands of Polish citizens hit the streets in protest after the ruling Law and Justice Party purged 27 of the country’s 72 supreme court judges, including the chief justice. The current Polish government is joining other right wing governments, including Hungary’s, in moving to take over the judicial system. For years the Law and Justice Party has targeted judges as Communists and obstructionists.

Deep State: New video shows the Thai boys trapped in a flooded cave laughing at times and in apparent good health. Rescuers say it could take months to get them out. The choices are to teach the boys to use scuba gear, or wait for the flooded cave to drain. But it’s just the beginning of the rainy season and the water could get higher.

Dept. of No Sympathy: Famed lawyer and law professor Alan Dershowitz, who “summers” on the exclusive island enclave of Martha’s Vineyard, complains that he is being shunned by the society in which rich men wear pink pants with whales on them.

Dershowitz’s fellow liberal lefties are so unhappy with what he said in his recent book, “The Case Against Impeaching Trump,” that they won’t sit next to him at dinner.

Dershowitz wrote for The Hill, “So they are shunning me and trying to ban me from their social life on Martha’s Vineyard.” The professor complains that there’s a growing intolerance for opposing views in America. “I never thought I would see McCarthyism come to Martha’s Vineyard, but I have.”

Next thing you know, the McCarthy family will be a member of the yacht club.

American Lit: President Trump, who claims the “special council” has found no evidence of collusion with Russia, defended his literary credentials via Twitter yesterday. “After having written many best selling books, and somewhat priding myself on my ability to write, it should be noted that the Fake News constantly likes to pour over my tweets looking for a mistake. I capitalize certain words only for emphasis, not b/c they should be capitalized!”

Uhh, Mr. President, that’s “pore over.”

It's Been Said

"In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate, and I should have, no excuses."

-Andrew Cuomo, resigning as governor of New York after accusations of sexual harassment
