Election Bluenami

SEISMIC SHIFT: President Trump pleaded with Americans to vote as if he was on the ballot and they did. They voted for Democrats.

Without all returns final, Democrats have taken control of both the House and Senate with some dramatic pickups. It’s the biggest shift since the post Nixon and Watergate days.

While the disaster for Republicans was breaking over the country President Trump, who bears much of the responsibility, whined on his Truth Social that, “I wasn’t on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!”

Democrats picked up at least 27 seats in the House. They flipped seven Republican Senate seats: Maine, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, and Texas. The balance at the moment in the Senate is 54-44 Democrat and in the House, 228-139 with many seats still to be decided.

As many of President Trump’s hand-picked candidates went down, James Talarico stomped Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to become that state’s first Democratic senator since 1988. John Husted, the Ohio senator whose “ass” Trump repeatedly admired, lost to Sherrod Brown. Darline Graham the complete political rookie in Soth Carolina appointed to fill the seat left by her late brother Lindsey, was turned out by Annie Andrews.

In Michigan, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed overcame questions about his religion and geo-political sentiments to beat Mike Rogers.

Roy Cooper, the former governor of North Carolina, flipped that state’s  Republican-held Senate seat for the Democrats.

Maine Republican Susan Collins, who’s been in the Senate for 40 years, was cast out for the relative unknown professional logger Troy Jackson.

Mississippi Democrat Scott Colom leads incumbent Cindy-Hyde Smith by only a handful of votes in a race far too close to call. The verdict is still out in Alaska where no one has 50 percent and the decision might fall to the ranked choice vote.

The demographics of the results are dramatic. Texas will have a Latino woman governor after Gina Hinajosa knocked out three-termer Greg Abbott by seven points. Florida’s governor will be Black. Georgia’s governor will be a Black woman. The Senate gets its first openly gay member and first Muslim.

WHINO: With disaster unfolding, President Trump was tapping out complaints about Fox News on his social media while also blaming fellow Republicans for their own downfall.

He wrote, “If Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas, hadn’t become a RINO in the last six months of his Political Life, he wouldn’t have lost.” In the aftermath, Trump has become a whino.

He was particularly unhappy with his favorite media network. “FoxNews Ratings are way down (27%!) because they’re spending too much time covering the Trump Deranged Dumocrats!” he complained.” He bragged that; “My numbers are better than they have ever been,” carefully cherry picking misleading statistics. “The new CNN Poll stated that ‘TRUMP’ is at 99% among Republicans and, among Republican Presidents, ‘TRUMP’ is at 53%, compared to Ronald Reagan at 18%, and Abraham Lincoln at 8%!” he claimed.

Earlier in the evening he posted, “Watching the Pre-Election Results on FoxNews, but I can’t stand Jessica Tarlov’s voice — DUMB AS A ROCK, but it’s the voice that gets me. Have to go somewhere else until that LOSER is off the air — I’ll be back later!”

The overall message seems to be lost on Trump. Nevertheless, in a call last night told NY Times reporters that he will accept the results of the elections. But on his Truth Social he posted a picture of a red baseball cap emblazoned with “VETO,” an indication that he will reject what the new Congress does.

INFINITE SCROLL:

— Amidst the winds of change for public sentiment, President Trump announced that the US annual aid of billions of dollars for Israel will run out and be cut off at the end of the year.

Trump is ending a bedrock American policy. “We were giving them four billion,” he told Brian Kilmeade of Fox News just as polls were opening on the East Coast. “We are. But it gets cut off at the end of the year.”  Trump described the move as a political effort to take a “bad talking point” away from the left wing of the Democratic Party.

The bad talking point is that Israel has become in the view of many voters and political critics the bully rather than the victim after leaving Gaza and southern Lebanon in bombed out rubble.

Under a new arrangement, Israel will buy US weapons rather than be given them.

— A federal judge this week dismissed a Trump administration lawsuit against Harvard University demanding  admissions data, saying the government had not satisfied the requirements for a court order to produce the records.

The Justice and Education departments continue to investigate  whether universities still consider race in admissions despite a  2023 Supreme Court ruling.

THE SPIN RACK: The Supreme Court heard arguments about Colorado’s denial of public money to Catholic preschools that excluded same-sex parents and their children. The court’s six conservatives appeared to lean in favor of ruling that the state was discriminating based on religion. — Parts of the tail of that Learjet that crashed in Florida on Sunday have been found miles from the point of impact. It’s an indication that the plane was plunging at such a speed that it started to break up in the air. — A heavy winter is expected for the West and California ski resorts are already beginning to open.

BELOW THE FOLD: Internet posters were busy last night. One of them said that as a result of the Democrat sweep trans athletes will begin swimming in the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool. Another said, “Trump got regime change in Texas before Iran.”

Another said the results are so drastic that Fox News will start covering weather. And then there’s this one: “Welcome to the Joe Rogan Experience. I’m Joe Rogan he/him. We are recording our show on unceded Cherokee land …”

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
