Econ Adviser Resigns, “Stormy” Sues

The White House Mess: On the same day President Trump claimed there’s no chaos in the White House, his chief economic adviser Gary Cohn announced he is resigning in the wake of Trump’s announcement decision to impose stiff new tariffs on imported steel and aluminum.

Stock markets around the world plunged on the news of Cohn’s resignation and the Dow is expected to dip.

Cohn is a Democrat and advocate of free trade who used to run the rich investment bank, Goldman Sachs. As a last-ditch effort, Cohn tried to arrange meetings for Trump with US companies that would be hurt by tariffs, but the President didn’t want to hear about it.

This came after Trump tweeted, “The new Fake News narrative is that there is CHAOS in the White House. Wrong! People will always come & go, and I want strong dialogue before making a final decision. I still have some people that I want to change (always seeking perfection). There is no Chaos, only great Energy!”

Reports vary, but many say that White House staff morale is level with the floor. The departure of Cohn, and last week’s resignation of Trump’s closest adviser, Hope Hicks, raises the question of who would work for this guy now. Trump told reporters yesterday, “I read where ‘Oh, gee, maybe people don’t want to work for Trump’ and believe me, everybody wants to work in the White House. They all want a piece of that Oval Office, they all want a piece of the West Wing.”

Equal Rights: After the revelation that she had an affair with her chief of security and went on getaways on the city’s dime, Nashville Mayor Megan Barry resigned yesterday and pleaded guilty to theft.

Finally, a woman does this.

Barry was Nashville’s first woman mayor, in office just 2 ½ years. Five weeks ago, she admitted to the affair, but tried to hang on to her office. She and Sgt. Robert Forrest Jr. of the Metro Nashville Police sometimes took trips alone, paid for by the city. He was paid overtime. The investigation also revealed that the pair used to meet in an SUV at a city graveyard.

Oh, tell us more!

Pillow Talk: Porn actress Stormy Daniels has filed a lawsuit against President Trump, claiming that her $130,000 deal for silence is invalid because Trump never signed it. Daniels stands to make buckets of money if she can free herself from her nondisclosure contract.

The payment was made by Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, out of his own money shortly before the 2016 election. Cohen and the Trumps claim the payment was not a violation of election law because Cohen was never reimbursed.

Daniels’ lawsuit says, “To be clear, the attempts to intimidate Ms. Clifford into silence and ‘shut her up’ in order to ‘protect Mr. Trump’ continue unabated.”

Stormy Weather: The East Coast is getting hit with the second winter storm in a week, dumping heavy snow that is likely to bring down trees and power lines. Thousands of customers are still without power from last Friday’s storm.

This morning, hundreds of flights have already been cancelled and Amtrak has cancelled 50 trains. Coastal flood warnings are in effect.

Nation: The Trump administration sued the state of California last night for refusing to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. California maintains “sanctuary” policies that protect illegal immigrants from deportation. — Most teachers in West Virginia are returning to work today after winning a 5 percent pay raise not only for themselves, but all state employees.

The Cad: Fans of ABC’s “The Bachelor” are in meltdown after Monday night’s season finale in which Arie Luyendyk Jr. proposed to Becca Kufrin, spent time with her after the show finished shooting, then six weeks later, changed his mind and broke up with her in front of a camera crew, explaining that he wanted to get back together with the runner-up, Lauren Burnham.

This was after they had gone house-hunting together.

Even the diehards were appalled as the cameras zeroed in on the shocked, tearful, and bewildered Kufrin as she absorbed the news that she was being dumped.

Luyendyk was defended by Jason Mesnick, who said, “This show can really mess somebody up. Unless you’ve been through it, you just don’t get it.” Mesnick is the only other Bachelor who dumped the winner for the runner-up.

Undaunted, Becca Kufrin is going to be the next “Bachelorette.” Now that’s messed up.

It's Been Said

"In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate, and I should have, no excuses."

-Andrew Cuomo, resigning as governor of New York after accusations of sexual harassment
