MERRY CHRISTMAS: It’s Christmas week and we’re off celebrating at least until Friday. Here’s a brief review for this morning.

THE NEWSROOM: Some of the staff at CBS News’ “60 Minutes” is in an uproar after the networks new editorial boss yesterday afternoon killed a scheduled segment about the Trump administration sending illegal migrants to a brutal prison in El Salvador.

  Although the broadcast had unsuccessfully tried to get an administration voice , Weiss suggested they get Trump’s architect of deportation policy, Stephen Miller.

  Correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi said in an internal email that her piece had gone through all of the standard rigorous vetting and that, “In my view, pulling it now, after every rigorous internal check has been met, is not an editorial decision, it is a political one.”

  Weiss was installed at CBS by David Ellison, the new owner of network owner Paramount who is an ally of President Trump. She said in a statement, “Holding stories that aren’t ready for whatever reason — that they lack sufficient context, say, or that they are missing critical voices — happens every day in every newsroom.”

MASSIVELY: In a recording obtained by The NY Times, Donald Trump can be heard pressing Georgia’s the speaker of the house to hold a special session to overturn the results of the 2020 election in that state.

  in the call on December 7th, 2020, Trump said that Speaker David Ralston could justify calling a special legislative session by saying it was “for transparency, and to uncover fraud.”  Trump said, “Who’s gonna stop you for that?”

  Ralston who died in 2022 responded, “A federal judge, possibly.”

  Trump in the call said, “We won, we won, we won your state massively. They took votes away.” He claimed that votes were “coming out of suitcases, luggage, and it was a lot of votes. It was probably more than 100,000. You know they ran them through three or four times, you know, the same votes.”
