Trumponomics, Hillary Starts to Hit

Poor Billionaire: With just over $1 million in his campaign account on the first of June, Donald Trump suggests that he might just bankroll his general election campaign himself. “If need be, there could be unlimited ‘cash on hand’ as I would put up my own money, as I have already done through the primaries, spending over $50 million,” he said.

At the same time, Trump claims he’s had a “tremendous outpouring of support” from donors since the beginning of the month. Maybe, but you can’t name a general election candidates who’s ever been this far behind in the money game as Trump. He’s got the war chest of a middling congressman, or, as the NY Times points out, about the same amount of money as the Manhattan district attorney and the New York City comptroller.

Hillary Hits: Hillary Clinton warns that Donald Trump’s economic policies would cause a global recession. She’s begun to attack Trump in the jugular vein of his business record. She said in a speech yesterday, “Donald Trump has said he’s qualified to be president because of his business record,” Mrs. Clinton said. “A few days ago he said — and I quote — ‘I’m going to do for the country what I did for my business.’ So let’s take a look.” Clinton listed Trump’s bankruptcies and casino failures as well as his documented stiffing of employees and contractors who have worked for him.

Clinton seems to have someone writing sharper lines for her. Yesterday she said of Trump, “He’s written a lot of books about his business. They all seem to end at Chapter 11.” Not bad, for Hillary.

Clinton described Trump as “the king of debt,” a mantle he proudly wears. He tweeted in response, “I am ‘the king of debt. That has been great for me as a businessman, but is bad for the country. I made a fortune off of debt, will fix U.S.”

Law and Order: The Oakland, Calif. police department has run through three chiefs in the past two weeks in a seamy sex scandal involving an underage prostitute that has landed the department under civilian control because no cop in that town can be trusted. One officer, who committed suicide last year, entered a romance with the girl even though he should have brought her to social services. Then he let her service other cops.

Mayor Libby Schaaf said, “As the mayor of Oakland, I am here to run a police department, not a frat house.”

Joining Oakland’s cops in disgrace are three high-ranking NY City Police commanders arrested in a federal corruption investigation. They’re accused of accepting expensive gifts, vacations, and the company of women in exchange for lavish gifts and vacations that cops favorable police services such as security details and escorts. Part of the investigation is focused on fundraising irregularities for Mayor Bill de Blasio’s election campaign.

Nation: Greg Evers, a conservative Florida Republican state senator who is running for United States Congress, says he’s going to hold a drawing to give away an assault rifle like the one used in the Orlando massacre — Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert goes to prison today for breaking finance laws in making payments to cover up the sexual abuse of a minor — Iowa Republican Congressman Steve King made a procedural move yesterday to block the redesign of paper money to feature women and civil rights leaders, including Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill.

To The Rescue: NY/NJ Port Authority Police yesterday arrested three ammosexual knuckle draggers driving a pickup loaded with weapons into New York City to “rescue” a young woman from drug use. Their ride was plastered with bright graphics advertising their love for guns and the Second Amendment.

One of the three was a militant anti-heroin crusader from Pennsylvania whose daughter recently died of an overdose.

Police found an assault rifle, a shotgun, and three loaded semi-automatic pistols in the truck. Included was an ammunition clip marked with the word “‘Merica.” Also, a bulletproof vest, prescription pills, marijuana and a pot pipe. Yep. Fully armed anti-heroin stoners

All three were charged with illegal possession and transport of weapons, high-capacity magazines, and marijuana. Police contacted the woman they were going to rescue who said, “I don’t need to be rescued.” Not by those guys.

It's Been Said

"In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate, and I should have, no excuses."

-Andrew Cuomo, resigning as governor of New York after accusations of sexual harassment
