Bibi on the Edge, Obamacare 16 Million

Israeli Elections: Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in danger of losing his seat after millions of Israelis went to the polls today. The Zionist Union Party led by Isaac Herzog has a slight edge, but the popular vote alone does not determine which party can put together a ruling coalition.

Herzog is considered to be center-left and supports the creation of a Palestinian state.

Yesterday in a last ditch attempt to put himself over the top, Netanyahu suddenly reversed himself and said he would not allow the creation of a Palestinian State if he was re-elected. Appealing to conservative and security-minded voters, Netanyahu said, “I think that anyone who is going to establish a Palestinian state today and evacuate lands, is giving attack grounds to the radical Islam against the state of Israel”

Obamacare: The Obama administration said yesterday that $16.4 million people have obtained healthcare coverage under the Affordable Care Act. The percentage of adults without adults without health insurance has dropped to 1from 20.3 percent down to 3.2 percent.

Nevertheless, House Republicans today are expected to reveal a budget plan that would repeal The Affordable Care Act entirely, partially privatize Medicare, and turn Medicaid into block grants to the states.

Vote: Oregon has become the first state to automatically register citizens to vote when they have a transaction with the state’s department of motor vehicles. Oregon already conducts all its elections with mail ballots. The legislature decided that it’s partly the responsibility of government to be certain people vote.

The Sports Page: San Francisco 49ers linebacker Chris Borland announced that after a series of concussions he’s quitting the game after just one season in the pros. Drafted out of Wisconsin, the 5-11 248-pound Borland said playing the game was not worth the risk to his health.

Brain injuries have become a major concern in pro football and Borland is not the first to quit early. He said, “I feel largely the same, as sharp as I’ve ever been. For me, it’s wanting to be proactive… I’m concerned that if you wait till you have symptoms, it’s too late.”

>After 25 years in exile, “Charlie Hustle,” otherwise known as Pete Rose, has formally applied for reinstatement with professional baseball and commissioner Rob Manfred said he will consider it “on the merits.” Rose was one of the greats of all time during his years with the Cincinnati Reds . He had 4,256 hits, still a record. But like Shoeless Joe Jackson, Rose gambled on the game and Commissioner Bart Giamatti at the time banned Rose for life, preventing him from ever being voted into the Hall of Fame.

Write On: Forensic scientists say they have found the tomb of Spain’s literary giant, Miguel de Cervantes, in Madrid’s Convent of the Barefoot Trinitarians. Cervantes was buried with his wife and other people so the bones will have to be identified and separated.

The author of Don Quixote was buried in 1616 but his coffin was later lost.

A Drag for ISIS: With their losses increasing, about 20 Islamic State fighters have been caught trying to slip out of combat areas dressed and disguised as women. Some of the fighters wore makeup and even women’s underwear. But others didn’t even shave their beards and moustaches. They have their principles.

It's Been Said

"In my mind, I’ve never crossed the line with anyone, but I didn’t realize the extent to which the line has been redrawn. There are generational and cultural shifts that I just didn’t fully appreciate, and I should have, no excuses."

-Andrew Cuomo, resigning as governor of New York after accusations of sexual harassment
