Tweet This: NY Mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner has his appendage in a wringer again after it was revealed that he continued sending explicit Internet pictures and notes to women after he resigned from Congress in scandal for doing the same. His sext name: “Carlos Danger”. But Weiner says he’s not quitting the mayoral race. He admitted that he continued sexting for about a year after he was caught, but sought counseling and repaired his relationship with his family. His wife said it wasn’t easy, but she’s sticking with him. “It’s in our rearview mirror, but it’s not far,” the candidate said. Weiner is not known for rear views.
National: The US Postal Service says it will not deliver mail to the door of newly built homes. Residents of new homes will have to have a mailbox at the curb or in a neighborhood cluster. About 30 million homes get mail delivered to the front door and 80 million to a box. Eliminating door delivery is a time and money saver.
>A natural gas well blew out and caught fire in the Gulf of Mexico. Forty-four workers were evacuated without injury. Putting out the fire will be difficult but there are special boats and fire teams for this purpose.
World: Indian police have arrested the headmistress of the school where 23 children were killed by a poisoned lunch. Pesticides were found in the school’s cooking oil. They are still looking for the woman’s husband.
The Obit Page: Former welterweight boxing champ Emile Griffith has died at age 75 after a long decline. Griffith was known for being both tough and a gentleman but his career and life were permanently shadowed by the fatal beating he gave to Benny “The Kid” Paret in front of a national television audience in 1962. Paret was knocked out in the 12th round then slipped into a coma and died 10 days later. Griffith said people used to spit on him in the street.
Nature’s Way: The US Fish and Wildlife Service is working on a plan to kill about 3,600 Barred Owls in the Pacific Northwest to make room for endangered Northern Spotted Owls. Scientists believe the two can’t live on the same turf and the Spotted Owls are losing. At $3 million, it’s an expensive and highly unusual effort to fix nature’s game of natural selection.
Under the Sea: An American company has recovered 61 tons of silver from a cargo ship sunk off Ireland during World War II. The SS Gairsoppa was torpedoed by a German U-boat in February 1941. It is one of the largest recoveries of precious metal from a sunken ship at extreme depth, nearly $40 million worth on today’s market.
