Vol. 8, No. 130
Late night at The Rum Bar on 47thStreet. This will be brief.
I, Donald:President Trump was up this morning tweeting about his greatness and victimhood.
“Think of it,” he wrote. “I became President of the United States in one of the most hard fought and consequential elections (1)in the history of our great nation. From long before I ever took office, I was under a sick & unlawful (2) investigation concerning what has become known as the Russian. Hoax. (3) My campaign was being seriously spied upon (4) by intel agencies and the Democrats. This never happened before in American history, and it all turned out to be a total scam, a Witch Hunt, (5) that yielded No Collusion, No Obstruction. This must never be allowed to happen again!” (6)
- He’s right. It was very consequential.
- No, it was not “unlawful.” It was commissioned by the Justice Department.
- He named it the “Russian Hoax.”
- Not spying, the FBI was investigating Russian meddling.
- Many witches were indicted.
- Unless the target is a Democrat.
Lysistrata: Actress Alyssa Milano has urged women to go on a sex strike to protest Georgia’s “heartbeat” anti-abortion law. “Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy,” she tweeted.
Georgia’s new law makes abortion illegal as soon as a fetal heartbeat can be detected, sometimes before a woman even knows she’s pregnant.
Milano said, “JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back.”
Possibly more serious for Georgia is a nascent movement to stop shooting movies and television productions in in the state. A letter signed by 50 actors says, “We will do everything in our power to move our industry to a safer state for women.”
Fight On:Under pressure from students, Harvard University has notified a law professor who’s a member of the defense team for the disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein that he will no longer be the faculty dean at a residential house.
Ronald Sullivan Jr., and his wife, Stephanie Robinson, a lecturer at the law school, have been the faculty deans since 2009. They were the first African-American faculty deans in Harvard history.
When Sullivan joined the Weinstein defense, students objected to having a dean who is defending a man accused of abusing women.
Someone will have to tell Harvard students, and the administration, that everyone in America has a right to a lawyer.
The Obit Page: Peggy Lipton, once America’s darling when she played a hippie cop on the 1960s television show “The Mod Squad.” Has died of cancer at age 72.
Once married to music producer Quincy Jones, Lipton was the mother of actress Rashida Jones.
“The Mod Squad,” which featured three counter-culture cops, was one of the first recognitions of the social revolution in television entertainment. Lipton came back in the 1990s playing a diner waitress on the television series “Twin Peaks.”
Crazy Donald:President Trump likes to give his political opponents derogatory nicknames; “Lyin’ Ted,” “Little Marco,” “Crooked Hillary.” He dubbed the upstart Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg “Alfred E. Newman.”
Trump said in an interview that “Alfred E. Neuman cannot become president of the United States.”Alfred E. Neuman is the gap-toothed character from “Mad” magazine, a vestige of the 1950s, as is the President.
Buttigieg said, “I’ll be honest. I had to Google that.”
