Revenge: President Trump and some Republican leaders are calling for California Rep. Adam Schiff to resign as head of the House intelligence committee, comparing him to the notorious communist hunter Joseph McCarthy in his quest to find election collusion with the Russians.
Trump claims vindication by the Special Counsel report although it has not been released. At a rally last night in Grand Rapids, Trump declared, “After three years of lies and smears and slander, the Russia hoax is dead.”
Russia did interfere with the US election. It was nota hoax.
At the rally Trump described Schiff as “little pencil-necked Adam Schiff. He told the crowd, “Sick, sick, these are sick people. And there has to be accountability because it’s all lies, and they know it’s lies.”
Ohio Republican Michael Turner, a member of the intelligence committee, said in an open hearing, “With McCarthyism,” a senator was “chasing after Russian Communists. Now we have Schiff chasing after Russian collusion.”
Schiff was barely able to contain his rage. The Mueller investigation as well as journalists discovered a lot of funny business involving Russians and the Trump camp.
Addressing his Republican critics Schiff said, “You might think that it’s O.K. that the president’s son-in-law sought to establish a secret back channel of communications with the Russians through a Russian diplomatic facility. I don’t think that’s OK. You might think it’s OK that an associate of the president made direct contact with the GRU through Guccifer 2.0 and WikiLeaks; that is considered a hostile intelligence agency,” Schiff said, in reference to Russian military intelligence and a Russian intelligence hacker.
He went on: “You might think that it’s OK that the national security-designate secretly conferred with the Russian ambassador about undermining U.S. sanctions. And you might think it’s OK he lied about it to the FBI You might say that’s all O.K. You might say that’s just what you need to do to win. But I don’t think it’s OK I think it’s immoral. I think it’s unethical. I think it’s unpatriotic. And yes, I think it’s corrupt.”
The Cliff Notes: When they heard how voluminous the Mueller report is, Democrats hardened their demands for a full release.
The Justice Department has confirmed that the Special Counsel report on Russian election-influencing runs 300 pages, which Attorney Gen. William Barr boiled down to just four pages and a judgement that the Trump presidential campaign did not collude with the Russians.
What Barr said was that the investigation found evidence on both sides of the question and that Mueller left it to him to make the final call. And he did.
Inflation:As a businessman, Donald Trump routinely inflated his net worth and the value of his business holdings to impress banks, business partners, and the press, The Washington Postreports. He used to hand out “Statements of Financial Condition”loaded with phony numbers, the paper says.
In the case of banks and loans, that is potentially criminal.
Some statements “simply omitted properties that carried big debts. Some assets were overvalued. And some key numbers were wrong, ” the paper reports.
The story says, “Trump’s financial statement for 2011 said he had 55 home lots to sell at his golf course in Southern California. Those lots would sell for $3 million or more, the statement said.
But Trump had only 31 lots zoned and ready for sale at the course, according to city records. He claimed credit for 24 lots — and at least $72 million in future revenue — he didn’t have.”
He even said Trump Tower had has 68 stories. It has 58.
Brexit: Britain’s Parliament votes for the third time today on prime Minister Theresa May’s plan for exiting the European union. It looks like they are going to shoot it down again, which means Britain will crash out of the EU April 12thwith no orderly relationship with Europe.
The Roundup:Following the example of California, New York State will ban most single-use plastic shopping bags. — Chicago wants actor/singer Jussie Smollett to reimburse the city $130,000, the cost of investigating his false claim of being the victim of a hate crime. — The Supreme Court chose not to block the Trump administration’s ban on bump stocks, the gun modification that allows a semi-automatic rifle to fire like a machine gun.
Frozen:The Walt Disney company is banning all smoking and vaping from its theme parks as of May 1. Also oversized baby strollers and ice cubes. Yes, ice cubes. The company says the ice ban will “improve guest flow, ease congestion and streamline the bag-check and entry processes.”They say if you need ice, they’ll give it to you, but if your baby stroller is an SUV you’ll have to rent a smaller one.
Remedial Edukashun:Actress Lori Loughlin’s daughter Olivia Jade Giannulli has become the poster-brat for the college admissions scandal, posting an online video saying she really didn’t want to go to college even after her mother exposed herself to criminal indictment getting her into USC.
Olivia Jade says she would prefer to make her way as a YouTube and Instagram fashion and brand representative and to hell with college. She’s got millions of followers.
She tried to trademark the brand “Olivia Jade Beauty” and “Olivia Jade” but was rejected in part because of improper punctuation on her application. The US Patent and Trademark Office issued a notice that the 19-year-old “must correct the punctuation in the identification to clarify the individual items in the list of goods” she offers under her trademark.
The notice then instructed Olivia Jade in the proper punctuation to use on her application. The letter specified that the applicant should not use colons, exclamation marks, question marks and periods.
