Trump Smears Accuser, The Wire

Doubt: The Senate Judiciary Committee has given the woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh one more day to negotiate the terms of her testimony.

President Trump finally jumped into the fray over his nominee, questioning the credibility of Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Judge Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her while the two were in high school.

Trump tweeted, “I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!”

Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins called the tweet “appalling.”

Many women never go to the police at the time they are assaulted, including those who came forward in recent years to accuse the President himself of sexual misconduct.

Trump went on to praise Kavanaugh saying, “Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a fine man, with an impeccable reputation, who is under assault by radical left wing politicians who don’t want to know the answers, they just want to destroy and delay.”

Further displaying ignorance of how law enforcement works, Trump also said, “The radical left lawyers want the FBI to get involved NOW. Why didn’t someone call the FBI 36 years ago?” The reason is that a sexual assault in Montgomery County, Md. is not a federal crime. But because Kavanaugh is up for a federal position it would be possible for the FBI to investigate as an extension of their background check.

#WhyIDidntReport: The new hashtag #WhyIDidntReport went viral yesterday along with President Trump’s tweet. Among those who say they never spoke up is Patti Davis, the daughter of President Ronald Reagan, who says she was raped 40 years ago in the office of a music executive.

“He was against me, on top of me — so quickly — with his hands under my skirt and his mouth on mine, that I froze,” she writes in The Washington Post.

She says, “I never told anyone for decades — not a friend, not a boyfriend, not a therapist, not my husband when I got married years later.” And she concludes, “Perhaps the aging men who are poised to interrogate her, unless they hide behind surrogates, should pause for a moment and think about the courage it takes for a woman to say: Here is my memory. It has haunted me for decades. It changed my life. You need to know about it now because of what is at stake for this country.”

The 25thJust two weeks into his job after the firing of FBI Director James Comey, Deputy Director Rod Rosenstein discussed secretly recording President Trump with the aim of collecting evidence to invoke the 25thAmendment and remove Trump from office, The NY Times Reports.

The paper says Rosenstein made his remarks in meetings and conversations with other Justice Department and FBI officials. Nothing came of it, but this will feed the President’s complaint that Rosenstein is one of the many people out to get him for purely political reasons. Rosenstein, who oversees the Russia investigation, has been one of the President’s targets.

On Second Thought: President Trump has backed off his demand for declassifying documents in the Russia investigation, instead settling for the Inspector General to review them first. Trump said in a tweet that “key Allies” (nether the capital A nor the apostrophe are necessary) asked that the documents not be released. Trump said he still reserves the right to release documents “if it proves necessary.”

Rosenstein told the Times in a statement that it never happened. “The New York Times’s story is inaccurate and factually incorrect,” he said. “I will not further comment on a story based on anonymous sources who are obviously biased against the department and are advancing their own personal agenda.

Love That Dirty Water: As floodwaters in the Carolinas continue to rise, a dam has broken, sweeping away part of a pile of coal ash and forcing Duke Energy to close down a nearby power plant. Coal ash is laced with arsenic and the polluted water threatens the water supply downstream.

That’s not all. In the pig-farming state of North Carolina, at least 54 lagoons filled with manure have flooded, emptying their contents into the general environment.

Cat Killer Thriller:After three years of finding the mutilated bodies of household cats, British investigators say they have solved the mystery of “The Croydon Cat Killer.”

The evidence indicated that a cruel and sadistic cat killer was at work. The animals died of blunt force trauma and sometimes were eviscerated with their tails cut off. Sometimes the cat bodies were left on the doorstep of their own homes.

The newspapers suggested that a demented cat killer was likely to move on to human prey.

The Telegraph, a notorious tabloid, reported that “Over 400 pets have been mutilated in exactly the same way — with the monster decapitating them, removing tail and organs, and putting corpses on display.”

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA, put out a reward for the identification of “A white man in his 40s with short brown hair, dressed in dark clothing.”

Then the police took a closer look at the bodies and the evidence. They found that most of the cats were road kill, later preyed upon by scavengers that ripped the bodies apart. No sadistic cat killer. No white man dressed in black. No BBC series based on a true story.

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
