Viral News: The number of coronavirus cases in the US is expected to surpass 4 million today as several states are setting new records for infections and deaths.
Nationally the rate of positive tests has doubled since June, now at about 8 percent. More than 66,000 new cases are reported every day.
California is reporting new highs in both cases and deaths. Missouri, North Dakota, and West Virginia reported their highest daily case numbers yesterday, while Alabama, Idaho and Texas set daily death records.
The US has had 3,971,343 cases with 143,193 deaths
For the second day, President Trump presided over the coronavirus briefing without the expert doctors Fauci and Birx. He doesn’t like having people who know what they’re talking about.
Noting that the highest death rate is among the elderly, Trump said,
“Our strategy is to shelter the highest risk Americans while allowing younger and healthiest citizens to return to work or school while being careful and very vigilant. Wear a mask socially distance and repeatedly wash your hands. Practice very, very good sanitary means.”
Nearly six months into the crisis, he has finally begun to advise people to wear masks in public.
The Interior Ministry: In furthering the creation of what amounts to a presidential police force, the White House announced that it is “surging” federal officers into cities facing increased crime and civil unrest.
In response to the accidental murder of a 4-year-old by in Kansas City, the Justice Department is sending over 200 federal law enforcement officers into Kansas City. The White House says the operation will expand into Chicago, Albuquerque. Cleveland, Detroit, and Milwaukee.
In response to some cities that are diverting money from policing in the wake of the Milwaukee murder of George Floyd, Trump said, “We want to make law enforcement stronger, not weaker. What cities are doing is absolute insanity.”
In particular Trump, who’s running for re-election as a Republican, is sending armed officers to cities he criticizes for being badly run by Democrats. Whoever these guys are that he’s sending, they have not been invited by local authorities. They are being sent to enforce Trump’s call for “law and order.”
Trump said yesterday, “Chicago is a disaster. The mayor is saying, ‘Don’t come in.’ The mayor is telling us not to come in. At some point, we can void that if we have to and we may have to because it’s out of control.” He continued, “She’s a Democrat. I’m going to be nice. She’s a Democrat.”
In Portland, Oregon, the city council voted to prohibit city police from cooperating with federal law enforcement and from using force on or arresting arresting journalists and legal observers.
In his book, “On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century,” Timothy Snyder writes that, “ If you carry a weapon in public service, may God bless you and keep you. But know that evils of the past involved policemen and soldiers finding themselves, one day, doing irregular things. Be ready to say no.”
The Dinner of Killers: Two men and a woman have been arrested in Florida for what has been described as the “massacre” of three young men on a fishing outing.
Brothers Tony “TJ” Wiggins and Robert Wiggins, along with Tony’s girlfriend, Mary Whittemore, are accused of beating and killing the three friends Friday night south of Orlando in the settling of what the local sheriffs describe as “a long-simmering beef.” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said of TJ Wiggins, “I didn’t stutter. He has 230 charges in his arrest history. Fifteen convictions and two times to state prison at only 26.”
The dispute involved a truck engine TJ Wiggins claimed was stolen from him. Judd said that afterwards the three accused drove to a McDonald’s where they calmly ordered 10 double cheeseburgers and two McChicken sandwiches.
Five Indicted in O-Hi-O: In a scandal hearkening back to the days when America was great, Ohio’s Republican House speaker and four others have been indicted in a $60 million “pay to play” scheme involving the approval of a new nuclear power plant. The local federal prosecutor said, “This is likely the largest bribery, money laundering scheme ever perpetrated against the people of the state of Ohio.”
The Bulletin Board: Tesla, the electric car maker, has chosen Austin, Texas as the place to build its $1 billion “cybertruck” factory. — The “men’s rights” lawyer who committed suicide after killing the son of a federal judge in New Jersey has been linked to the murder of a lawyer in California. The FBI says they believe Roy Den Hollander shot and killed Mark Angelucci, July 12 in Cedarpines Park, California. Angelucci, a lawyer, was vice president of the National Coalition for Men. — Twitter announced a crackdown on accounts and activity associated with the QAnon conspiracy movement. They’re the nuts who thought a child sex ring was run out of a Washington DC pizza joint.
Bipolar Rap: Rapper Kanye West in an online rant claimed he is trying to divorce his wife, the celebutante Kim Kardashian, while also accusing her mother, Kris Jenner, of engaging in “white supremacy.”
In the series of tweets, West also referred to his mother-in-law, as “Kris Jong-Un” and said that the Kardashians were attempting to force him into psychiatric treatment.
West was diagnosed with bipolar disorder several years ago and appears to be off his medications. On July 4th he declared he’s running for president, although that doesn’t make him the craziest person ever to run for the office.
