Vol. 8, No. 137
Pardon Me: A Navy SEAL about to go on trial for killing unarmed civilians in Iraq and executing a prisoner with a knife is among service members being considered for a pardon by President Trump.
The President has requested the pardoning forms for Special Operations Chief Edward Gallagher. Also under consideration for pardons are a former Blackwater security contractor found guilty of killing dozens of unarmed civilians; Maj. Mathew Golsteyn, an Army Green Beret accused of killing an unarmed Afghan; and a group of Marine Corps snipers charged with urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban fighters.
Reports say that although the pardoning process usually takes months, President Trump wants to rush these through by Memorial Day.
Impeach Him:Michigan Rep. Justin Amash yesterday became the first Republican member of Congress to say outright that President Trump has committed “impeachable conduct” and he accused Attorney General William Barr of intentionally misleading the public about the thrust of the Special Counsel report.
Amash said in a series of tweets that, “Contrary to Barr’s portrayal, Mueller’s report reveals that President Trump engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meet the threshold for impeachment.”
The Racing Form: War of Will, the horse that lost its shot at the Kentucky Derby when it was cut off by Maximum Security, won the Preakness in Baltimore yesterday.
In an otherwise unremarkable race, the horse Bodexpress threw its rider out of the starting gate and ran riderless. For a while, he was a contender to win.
The Roundup: The Trump administration has warned Congress that the government might need an additional $1.4 billion to house the migrants flooding over the southern border. This would be in addition to $2.9 billion already requested. — Dozens of tornadoes have hit the Great Plains since Friday and a flurry of them is expected tomorrow. The potential targets are Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas— A high school cafeteria worker in Canaan, NH was fired after she let a student have an $8 lunch without paying. The student paid the next day.
Game Over:After eight seasons and millions of water cooler arguments about plot, character, and hidden messages, HBO’s “Game of Thrones” bows out with its final episode tonight.
Will Daenerys Targaryenstill have a chance to take the Iron Throne after committing genocide at King’s Landing? Will Jon Snow put aside his humility and kill Daenerys to take the seat? Are Jaime and Cersei Lannister really dead? We didn’t actually see what happened when the roof fell.
Then again, the winner of “Game” could be someone you never considered; the paralyzed seer Bran Stark, his sister Sansa, or even the brilliantly immoral Tyrion Lannister.
When you think about it, they all have a better chance than almost all of the Democrats running for president.
