Obama Cuts Greenhouse, She’s a Knockout

Executive Order: President Obama is expected tomorrow to announce tough new regulations to dramatically cut greenhouse gas emissions by power plants. If they pass legal challenges, the regulations would probably shut down hundreds of coal-fired power plants that can’t meet the standard and push the production of wind, solar, and other alternate energy sources.

The president said in a slickly produced video released on YouTube overnight that, “Climate change is not a problem for another generation, not anymore.”

Veep: Vice President Joe Biden is taking a serious look at running for president, the NY Times reports. The paper says Biden is in touch with Democratic Party leaders and donors who have doubts and have not yet committed themselves to Hillary Clinton. The report says that in his grief over the recent death of his son Beau, Biden is considering what his son wanted him to do, run for president. The vice president is way behind in building an organization and raising money.

The Money Primary: Presidential campaign finance reports filed with the federal government reveal that about a third of the money collected to support candidates so far came from just 60 wealthy people. Campaign organizations are limited to accepting $2,700 from each individual donor, but the so-called Super Pacs, the political action committees, can tap donors for as much as they are willing to give.

-Hedge fund manager Robert Mercer gave $11 million for Ted Cruz.

-Equity manager Toby Neugebauer gave $10 million for Ted Cruz.

-Roofing billionaire Diane Hendricks gave $5 million for Scott Walker.

-Movie executive Jeffrey Katzenberg gave $1 million for Hillary Clinton.

Media investor Haim Saban and his wife Cheryl each gave $1 million for Hillary Clinton.

PolitiSpeak: Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says he still doesn’t know whether President Obama is a Christian. Answering questions at the Koch brothers Freedom Partners summit in Dana Point, Walker said, “I don’t know. I presume he is.” He went on, “As someone who is a believer myself, I don’t presume to know someone’s beliefs about whether they follow Christ or not unless I’ve actually talked with them.”

Nation: A manhunt is underway in Memphis for a gunman who shot and killed a 33-year-old police officer during a traffic stop. With police officers under scrutiny for their videotaped behavior in recent incidents, the shooting illustrates that one of the most dangerous moments for a cop is pulling over a motorist.

MH370: A second piece of aircraft wreckage described as a door has been found washed up on Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean. The first part discovered, a wing flap, has been verified as coming from a Boeing 777 like the Malaysian airliner that disappeared 18 months ago.

The Lion Sleeps: Zimbabwe has suspended the hunting of lions, leopards, and elephants near where the popular Cecil the lion was killed by an American bow hunter. Authorities say Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer and his two guides lured Cecil out of a national park with an animal carcass. The Safari Operators Association says hunting brings in $40 million a year and the ban could lose them a lot of money.

Punchline: Ultimate fighting’s tough girl Ronda Rousey knocked out Bethe Correia last night in Rio. A knee to the mid section, a left hook, right to the temple, a short left and it was over. The fight lasted 34 seconds. Rousey’s last four fights have run a total of 130 seconds from the opening bell. Pity the opponents … and the ticket buyers.

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
