My Attorney Got Arrested, Willie is Back

The Trumpster Fire: The latest meme making the rounds of the internet is “MAGA – My Attorney Got Arrested.”
President Trump lashed out at his former lawyer/fixer Michael Cohen who pled guilty to several crimes and pointed the finger of blame at the President. “If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you don’t retain the services of Michael Cohen!” Trump tweeted.
Cohen managed Trump’s business deals and personal scandals for about a dozen years.
While Cohen admitted he did wrong, Trump reserved his admiration for former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who went to trial and was found guilty. Trump tweeted, “I feel very badly for Paul Manafort and his wonderful family. ‘Justice’ took a 12 year old tax case, among other things, applied tremendous pressure on him and, unlike Michael Cohen, he refused to ‘break’ – make up stories in order to get a ‘deal.’ Such respect for a brave man!”
In other words, he’s not a rat. The President respects a man who cheated on his taxes, lied to banks and the government, and is now a convicted felon.
Trump and his avatars say the Manafort conviction in particular has nothing to do with the President, “The president has done nothing wrong,” Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said repeatedly during the White House news briefing. “There are no charges against him. There is no collusion.”He is, however, basically an unindicted co-conspirator in the Cohen case and “no charges’ is the lowest standard for the President of the United States.
Trump tweeted last night, “The only thing that I have done wrong is to win an election that was expected to be won by Crooked Hillary Clinton and the Democrats.”
Now This: New York investigators subpoenaed Michael Cohen for documents related to the Donald J. Trump Foundation. Cohen immediately indicated he will comply. The State of New York is investigating whether the foundation violated tax laws.
Willie Horton: The illegal immigrant accused of killing a 20-year-old college girl is bound to be the Willie Horton of the fall political campaign. President Trump and his supporters are already making 24-year-oldCristhian Rivera and illegal immigration an issue while ignoring the criminality of the men who have surrounded the President.
For those who don’t know or don’t remember, Willie Horton was a convicted murderer released from a Massachusetts prison in 1987 on a weekend furlough, only to commit rape and robbery. The incident was used as a weapon against Democratic Presidential candidate Michael Dukakis, who had been governor at the time.
Former Republican Sen. Rick Santorum said on CNN that illegal immigration is the issue Americans really care about, not the Russia investigation or the legal problems of Trump’s associates.
Speaking in Charleston, WV Tuesday night, President Trump never mentioned Cohen and Manafort but said, “You heard about today with the illegal alien coming in very sadly from Mexico. And you saw what happened to that incredible beautiful young woman should have never happened illegally in our country.”
Money, Money: The great bull market yesterday hit the mark of 3,453 days, nearly 9 ½ years, making it the longest stretch of stock growth in history. It’s a mixed blessing. While the Standard & Poor’s 500grew 323 percent, most Americans are not invested in the market. Incomes have risen slowly during the economic recovery and home values, the source wealth for most Americans, have lagged behind the markets.
Now Him: CNNconservative commentator Paris Dennard has been suspended by the network after The Washington Post dug up the story that he had been fired by Arizona State University four years ago for making sexually explicit overtures to women. The Postobtained a university document that said Dennard told a recent college graduate who worked for him that he wanted to have sex with her. The story quotes a document saying Dennard “pretended to unzip his pants in her presence, tried to get her to sit on his lap, and made masturbatory gestures.”
Dennard is an ardent defender of the President. He’s also an opinion contributor to The Hill, and regular guest on NPR’s“Here & Now.”
And Him: Ohio State is benching its powerhouse football coach Urban Meyer for three games because he fumbled domestic violence allegations against a longtime assistant and family friend, the school announced Wednesday night. In big time college football, this is like suspending God for three Sundays.
Like a Hurricane: Heavy rains are beginning to soak the Hawaiian islands as Hurricane Lane approaches. It’s a Category 4 storm just over 200 miles south of the Big Island. Hurricane warnings have been issued for the Big Island, Maui and Oahu, including Honolulu. Spam is already flying off the shelves.
Special Victims Unit: Three Pennsylvania men have each been accused of 1,460 counts of having sex with farm animals. The police found that the men had kept a collection of videos, and we’ll leave you this morning with that image in your head.
