America’s Most Wanted: Computer contractor Edward Snowden, who leaked information about the US Government’s widespread collection of Internet and telephone data, checked out of his Hong Kong hotel room. If anyone knows where he is, he’s not leaking it. The FBI and Justice are moving quickly to investigate and indict Snowden for violating national security. he would have to be extradited from whatever country he’s in at the time he’s charged.
National: The White House decided to drop its opposition to allowing women of any age to buy the “morning after pill” Plan B One-Step without a prescription. The administration had been fighting the order of a federal judge to make the contraceptive pill more available.
World: Turkish protesters today are battling riot police in Istanbul’s Taksim Square. the protesters have thrown firebombs and the police have fought back with water cannon and rubber bullets. The square has been occupied by Turks who object to the Prime Minister’s plan to develop open space into shopping and apartments.
>The Taliban beheaded two Afghan boys age 10 and 16 as a warning to make villagers stay away from Afghan troops. The turbaned fighters are trying to block all cooperation with the Afghan government and military. The boys had been to a military checkpoint to scrounge for food.
>An apartment building in Mumbai collapsed during heavy rains, trapping at least 20 people inside. Only two months ago a 7-story building collapsed, killing 74.
Sports: ESPN reports that the New England Patriots will sign the praying QB Tim Tebow, who was released in March but the New York Jets and was looking unemployable. Some critics say he can’t throw well enough to make it in the NFL. Tebow will be backing up Tom Brady, the Patriots multi Super Bowl winner, described by some as better looking.
Bites of Apple: The Computer giant announced a music streaming service “iTunes Radio” that will be embedded in a new operating system for the iPhone and iPad. The interface has a new look, for those of you who get excited by this sort of thing. And Apple announced that you can give robo-voice Siri a sex change to a male voice. Simi?
Men Love Heels: A 59-year-old Houston man was stabbed to death over the weekend with a stiletto heel. A 44-year-old woman answered the door when police arrived, but they didn’t say whether she was wearing the weapons.
