“Major Conflict,” Healthcare Fails Again

Vol. 6, No.110
It’s Scary: President Trump told an interviewer from Reuters that the US could have a “major conflict” with North Korea if it conducts another nuclear test. “There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea,” he said. “Absolutely.”
Trump said he is looking for a diplomatic solution and Chinese President Xi Jinping is making good efforts to deal with North Korea. “I believe he is trying very hard,” Trump said. “He certainly doesn’t want to see turmoil and death. He doesn’t want to see it.”
As the North continues its missile testing, an American anti-missile system is close to becoming operational in South Korea.
It’s Political: A last-minute Republican effort to revive a healthcare bill has failed. Republican leaders were not comfortable with the margin of support within their own party. Democrats had threatened to hold up the spending bill and force the government to close if healthcare came up again today.
The spending bill is likely to pass today, but it’s good for only one week. The Republicans will need Democratic votes to pass a long-term plan.
With so much political wrangling going on, President Trump went on a Twitter rampage yesterday, accusing the Democrats of everything from diminishing the safety of American troops to wanting illegal immigrants to pour over the border, and deliberating closing the government. “As families prepare for summer vacations in our National Parks – Democrats threaten to close them and shut down the government. Terrible!”
On Second Thought: Trump has backed out of his threat to remove the United States from the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), admitting that it would cause economic chaos and possibly billions in financial losses. Yesterday in a phone conversation, President Trump, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to renegotiate NAFTA.
No. 4: The state of Arkansas executed its fourth prisoner in eight days last night in a rush to clear its death house docket. Kenneth Williams, 38, was convicted of murdering Cecil Boren, an assistant prison warden, after Williams escaped from prison. He was originally given a life sentence for murdering a university cheerleader.
Boren was a friend to James Hawkins, the local coroner near the prison. Hawkins handled Boren’s body, and 17 years later declared Williams dead.
In his final moments Williams said to witnesses, “I was more than wrong. The crime I perpetrated against you all was senseless.”
No. 1: Myles Garrett, a defensive end from Texas A&M, was picked first in the NFL draft last night by the Cleveland Browns. Garrett is 6-4, 272 pounds, and he can do the 40-yard dash in 4.64-seconds. Everybody out of the way.
Permawar: Two US soldiers were killed during a joint US/Afghan operation against ISIS in Nangarhar province on the eastern border of the country. It’s near where the US recently dropped a 22,000-pound bomb on an ISIS tunnel and bunker complex. A concentration of 600-800 ISIS fighters in the area has been very resilient.
Friendly Skies: United Airlines has settled the lawsuit brought by Dr. David Dao, the passenger dragged off an airliner to make room for deadheading United crew members. The airline didn’t say how much money they’re giving him.
United has also announced they are raising the maximum amount of money they’ll give a bumped passenger to $10,000. It was $1,350. “34 C, will you take 55 hundred?”
Wakeup: In that interview with Reuters, President Trump said he misses his old life. “I loved my previous life. I had so many things going,” Trump told Reuters “This is more work than in my previous life. I thought it would be easier.”
A lot of people miss his old life.
