E Minus 21: Seeing vulnerability even in some traditionally Republican states, Hillary Clinton is sending in troops to try to tip the balance in her favor. She has advanced from just winning to handing Donald Trump and the Republicans a crushing, humiliating defeat. She is spending millions in an attempt to beat Donald Trump in Arizona, Indiana, and Missouri; not only to win the presidency, but the Senate as well.
Clinton is laying out $2 million in Arizona and sending in Michelle Obama, who, if she was running, would probably win the presidency.
The latest Monmouth poll has Clinton leading by 12 points; CBS, 9; NBC, 11. The RealClear Politics average of polls has Clinton leading by 7.1 points.
In Re: Email, Clinton, Classified. Hillary Clinton’s email travails just won’t go away. The latest documents released suggest that one of her aides tried to trade declassifying a Clinton email for granting the FBI more agents in Iraq. It can’t quite be determined from the messages whether the trade ever took place, but the conversation doesn’t look good. There’s nothing in it that suggests Hillary knew about it.
Severance: Billy Bush, the third-hour host of NBC’s Today Show, has been kicked out of the network immediately for his enabling role in the Donald Trump Access Hollywood recording, but he’s being paid millions, if not all of his $3 million a year contract.
In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Melania Trump said her husband apologized for his scatological conversation with Bush on the Access tape. “It was ‘boy talk,'” she said, “and he was led on — like, egged on — from the host to say dirty and bad stuff.”
She also said that the complaints by women claiming her husband groped them are lies organized by the press and the Clinton campaign to hurt Donald. “I believe my husband, I believe my husband — it was all organized from the opposition.”
Stop the Press: A North Dakota judge yesterday rejected “riot” charges against documentary journalist Amy Goodman in connection with of her filming a protest against construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. An arrest warrant was issued for Goodman after her September report was viewed online. District Attorney Ladd Erickson said Goodman was acting as a protester, not a journalist, because “Everything she reported on was from the position of justifying the protest actions,” he told the Grand Forks Herald.
She is an advocacy journalist. Goodman’s report for Democracy Now! from North Dakota showed protesters crossing through a fence to confront bulldozers. They were met by security guards with pepper spray and dogs, some of which bit protesters. At no time during her report did Goodman say or do anything in support of the protesters, although she was trespassing along with them.
Skull and Bones: Archaeologists in Australia say that the remains of a man who lived between 1260 and 1280 show that he was killed with a wooden weapon akin to the boomerang. It’s the first find of its kind. Researchers say the weapon was probably what’s known as a “fighting boomerang,” not the kind that you throw and hope it comes back to you. It was a hardwood weapon wielded by hand that could strike a blow with the force of steel. It was fatal for the aborigine who’s been named Kaakutja, after the Baakantji word for “older brother.”
Net Nanny: In the midst of releasing emails related to Hillary Clinton and the election, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange was cut off from the internet by his hosts at the Ecuadorian embassy in London. Neither Wikileaks nor the embassy offered an explanation. The Australian Assange is living in the embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden on charges of rape.
Rigged: Donald Trump is pressing his claim that the entire election is rigged. “People that have died ten years ago are voting. Illegal immigrants are voting,” Trump said, offer no evidence. Trump also says the media are rigged and aligned against him. Comedian Trevor Noah said, “The media is not rigged against you. They’re just recording what you’re saying and playing it back.”
