French Mobilize, Globes and Fashion Terror

French Alert: The French government announced today it will deploy 10,000 soldiers to protect Jewish schools and other sensitive sites in a rare peacetime mobilization against terror attacks. Another 4,700 police officers also will be on the streets.
President Obama is taking heat for not attending the enormous anti-terror rally in Paris yesterday. At least 40 world leaders marched, but it would have been a nightmare for the Secret Service.
Meanwhile, a video in which terroristAmedy Coulibal declares his allegiance to the Islamic State and swears to defend Islam has surfaced in the investigation of last week’s massacre at Charlie Hebdo magazine.
Coulibal was killed after taking hostages in a kosher grocery.
Investigators say they found Coulibal’s base, an apartment in a southern Paris suburb, where he stashed automatic weapons, explosives, money and Islamic State flags. The apartment was rented just three days before the Charlie Hebdo attack.
US Attorney General Eric Holder told ABC News from Paris yesterday that it is yet to be determined whether the three dead Paris terrorists had any true connections to the Islamic State or al Qaeda.
AirAsia: Searchers have recovered the flight data recorders from AirAsia 8501 at the bottom of the Java Sea. The discovery should help unravel the mystery of the passenger jet’s crash.
Award Season:“Boyhood,” the movie that took 12 years to make, and the hysterical “The Grand Budapest Hotel” won the two Best Picture awards at the Golden Globes last night. The Globes are considered a predicter of Oscar results.
Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler provided the barbs. They pointed out that the many accomplishments of George Clooney’s new wife includes advising UN Secretary Kofi Annan on Syria, “So tonight her husband is getting a lifetime achievement award.”
Bill Cosby took a hit in a reference to the movie “Into the Woods.” The hosts said Sleeping Beauty “just thought she was getting coffee with Bill Cosby.”
Cuba Libre: Reuters news agency reports that Cuba has released all 53 prisoners promised freedom as part of an agreement to normalize relations with the US.
Professional Football: A successful protest by Green Bay cost Dallas a potentially game-winning play as Green Bay went on to win 26-21 and advance in the NFL playoffs. Dallas receiver Dez Bryant caught a pass in the 4th quarter and fell inches from the goal line, but he bobbled the ball and on review it was ruled incomplete.
Quarterback Andrew Luck led Indianapolis 24-13 over the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning, thereby casting doubt on whether Manning will be back.
Next week Green Bay goes to Seattle for the NFC Championship. Indianapolis travels to meet the New England Patriots for the AFC title.
Professional Football II: The #4 Ohio State Buckeyes and the #2 Oregon Ducks clash tonight in the first-ever official college football championship. Both teams are 13-1.
The cost of a 30-second commercial on ESPN is $1 million, but the athletes won’t get any of it. They’re “amateurs,” which means everyone else makes money but them. But here’s the bright side. The NCAA is helping to pay the expenses of families that otherwise couldn’t afford to go see their “student athletes” play.
Calling Mr. Blackwell: Fashion terrorists struck the Golden Globe awards last night leaving casualties all along the red carpet. “Girls” creator Lena Dunham in a red expedition tent. Keira Knightly in a Victorian nightgown with fishing flies on it. Tina Fey in a white trapezoid … you were playing for laughs, right? Kate Hudson wearing a white dress that looked like a kindergarten fold and cut project. Diane Kruger, and Christine Baransky … thank you … there’s hope.
