Father Against Guns, World of Destruction

GunBeat: Even the father of the man who killed nine people at a Roseburg, Oregon community college has expressed dismay at his son’s ability to legally buy a small arsenal of 14 weapons. Ian Mercer, the father of 26-year-old Christopher Harper-Mercer, told CNN, “I’m a great believer you don’t buy guns, don’t buy guns, you don’t buy guns.”

Mercer said he had not seen his son in two years and declined to speak about whether his son had psychological problems. His son Christopher, originally reported to have been killed in a gunfight with the police, has been ruled a death by suicide.

Witnesses said Christopher Harper-Mercer asked his victims about their religion, prompting Tennessee’s Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, to advise his fellow Christians to get themselves a gun. “I would encourage my fellow Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit,” Ramsey posted on Facebook. “I have always believed that it is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.” A slogan spoken by a man who has never seen nor been in a gunfight.

Editor’s Warning: Here comes a list of death and destruction followed by Hillary Clinton being sort of funny.

Heavy Weather: Record setting rains, 12 inches in some areas, have washed out roads and bridges in the Carolinas and Virginia. The streets of Charleston are flooded. One woman drowned in her car and another was killed by a falling tree. Winds above 35 miles per hour are still threatening to take down trees and power lines.

Meanwhile, the Coast Guard has found only a single life ring from a missing US-flagged container ship caught in the fury of Hurricane Joaquin with 33 people on board, 28 of them Americans. The ship is believed to have lost power and was taking on water. The last communication was 7:20 am ET Thursday.

Permawar: Nineteen people died in an errant US bombing raid that hit a hospital run by Doctors Without Borders in Kunduz, Afghanistan. A US military statement said the target was a hostile force and “there may have been collateral damage to a nearby medical facility.” There certainly was. Civilian deaths in American air attacks have long been a sore point with the Afghans.

American aircraft and Special Forces are directly supporting Afghan forces trying to re-take the city of Kunduz from the Talban. Despite Afghan government claims to the contrary this past week, the Taliban appear to be still in control.

World: Hundreds of people are missing and 73 confirmed dead after a massive landslide that buried significant portions of a small town in Guatemala. With heavy rain soaking the steep hills, many residents of El Cambray ignored a warning to evacuate.

And last, 10 people are dead and six missing after flash flooding along the French Riviera. They were trapped in cars, a campsite, and a retirement home.

Relatable Woman Bartender: Hillary Clinton played a bartender last night on Saturday Night Live, waiting on Kate McKinnon playing Hillary Clinton.

Asked what she does for a living, McKinnon as Hillary says, “First, I am a grandmother. Second, I am a human, entrusted with this one green Earth.”

“Oh,” Clinton says, “you’re a politician.”

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
