Ferguson: St. Louis County’s executive declared a state of emergency yesterday after street violence returned to Ferguson, Mo. with protests over police shootings. A reporter was beaten and robbed, a police officer was injured, and two teenagers wounded in a drive-by shooting. About two-dozen people were arrested last night.

An 18-year-old man shot by police in an exchange of gunfire was charged with multiple crimes yesterday as he lay in the hospital in critical condition.

Nation: The search for the missing male model Ian Jones, 32, was ended yesterday with the discovery of a body matching his description

near the Poughkeepsie Yacht Club on the Hudson River. Jones and his girlfriend Tali Lennox, 22, a prominent fashion model and the daughter of rock singer Annie Lennox, were paddling kayaks near Staatsburg, NY Saturday when their boats overturned and Jones disappeared. Lennox was pulled from the river by people in a passing boat.  

Environmental Protection: A cleanup by the EPA has become an enormous toxic spill that turned the Animas River in Colorado mustard orange with pollutants that will flow into to the San Juan River.

Six days ago an EPA team was opening an abandoned gold mine to drain toxic wastewater, but instead created a breech that let the water flow into the nearby river. At least three million gallons of water laced with heavy metals and other unidentified pollutants has flowed into the Animas, which is popular for fishing and kayaking.

Godzilla: Japan has re-opened one of its nuclear power plants for the first time since the Fukushima meltdowns in 2011. Kyushu Electric Power restarted the number one reactor at its Sendai plant this morning after it passed stringent safety tests. Japan is heavily dependent upon nuclear power but closed all of its nuke plants after the 2011 tsunami and resulting power plant disaster. Some Japanese are still worried about it. There were protests at Sendai.

Hen in the Foxhouse: After an avalanche of viewer messages siding with Donald Trump against his network, Fox News boss Roger Ailes spoke with Trump to settle the feud between with the leading Republican candidate and the conservative network. Trump has been boycotting Fox following Megyn Kelly’s tough questioning during the Republican debate, denying Fox his entertainment value. Ailes is quoted as saying, “We discussed our concerns, and I again expressed my confidence in Megyn Kelly.” He added, “And the air has been cleared.”

Trump tweeted afterwards that Ailes promised to cover Trump “fairly” in the future, suggesting that host Megyn Kelly’s debate questions were not fair.

By expressing his “confidence” and by basically begging Trump to appear once again on the network, Ailes threw Kelly under the bus by even having the conversation with. Ratings Trump journalism.

What’s in a Name: In what’s being treated as a big business story Google and its collection of owned companies is being reorganized under a parent company to be called “Alphabet.” It hasn’t changed the world. When you Google “alphabet” you still get “al·pha·bet, noun, a set of letters or symbols in a fixed order, used to represent the basic sounds of a language.”

Political Humor: Stephen Colbert told television writers in Los Angeles that he’s dying to do political jokes but doesn’t have a venue until he takes over The Late Show on Sept. 9^th. “Now I’m just hoping that certain people stay in the race until September 9, Colbert said. “I’m not going to name any names, but let’s just say I want to do jokes on Donald Trump so badly, and I have no venue, so let’s just say right now I’m just dry-Trumping.”
