Bergdahl Not Ready, Chrome Owner Angry

Bergdahl: Army doctors say Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is physically able to travel but not yet emotionally prepared to go home, according to a report in the NY Times. Bergdahl is in a military hospital in Germany. The paper says Bergdahl told medical staff that he was kept in darkness in a metal cage for weeks at a time after trying to escape from his Taliban captors. Bergdahl is being shielded from the news, so he’s unaware of the debate raging at home about the circumstances of his capture and release.His family reports receiving death threats.
Escape: Three inmates escaped a prison in suburban Quebec City when a helicopter landed in the courtyard and they piled on board. The three men with ties to the Hells Angels motorcycle club were awaiting trial on a variety of charges. It’s the second time in just over a year that a helicopter was used in the escape from a Quebec prison. So far, investigators have no idea where the helicopter came from, or where it went.
Nation: The driver of a Wal-Mart tractor trailer,who may have fallen asleep at the wheel, is being charged in a pileup on the New Jersey Turnpike that killed one man and critically injured comedian Tracy Morgan. The limousine bus Morgan was riding in rolled over. Killed was Morgan’s good friend and comedy writer James McNair. Morgan is described as being in critical condition, but a family member said he managed to smile.
World: At least 50 people were killed last night in a series of bombings across Baghdad. At least eight attacks took place within one hour. In one neighborhood 23 people were killed, many of them students playing billiards. Earlier in the day, gunmen took over a university campus in the western city of Anbar, taking dozens of students hostage before letting them go and departing.
> Egypt’s former military leader Abdel Fattah el-Sisi was sworn in as the country’s new president today. Sisi led a military coup against his predecessor, Mohammed Morsi.
Belmont: California Chrome co-owner Steve Coburn was angry after his horse lost a bid to win horse racing’s Triple Crown at the Belmont Stakes in New York yesterday. Coburn said only horses that ran in the Kentucky Derby should be eligible to run the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes for a shot at the crown. The three races span five weeks, which is tough on the horses. Coburn said, “This is not fair to these horses that have been running their guts out.” He said, “Our horse had a target on his back.” The winner of the Belmont was Tonalist, which had not run the prior two races.
Stanley Cup: The Los Angeles Kings skated into their second overtime before putting away the NY Rangers 5-4 in the second game of the Stanley Cup series. It’s the Kings’ second overtime win in two games. The series resumes Monday night in New York.
Cold Cash: Palo Alto real estate millionaire Jason Buzi has admitted that he’s the man who’s been hiding stashes of cash and Tweeting clues to their location in the Bay area and Los Angeles. The television show “Inside Edition” used voice analysis to uncover the Johnny Appleseed of cash. Buzi made his fortune during the recession buying houses at distress prices and flipping them for profit. He tweeted that more surprises are coming.
