MOM GUILTY IN SLAY PLOT!: In the tabloid trial of the year so far, an Idaho jury has convicted Lori Vallow Daybell, 49, of murdering her two youngest children and the wife of her lover. She faces life in prison and another trial for conspiracy to murder her fourth husband.
Daybell had claimed that her son and daughter were zombies and she was a goddess sent to usher in the Biblical apocalypse. Her lawyers said she had fallen under the influence of an aspiring cult leader, her current husband. Prosecutors said she killed her kids for their Social Security money, and freedom from responsibility for raising them.
Vallow Daybell was convicted of conspiring to murder 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan, and Tammy Daybell, the first wife of Lori’s fifth husband, Chad Daybell, 54, who faces murder charges in a trial later this year.
Long after they went missing, and their mother seemed to express no concern, the children’s bodies were found in June 2020, buried on property in Rexburg, Idaho owned by Chad Daybell. Chad and Lori got married just one month after his wife’s body was found. Lori was sitting poolside in a bikini in Hawaii when she was served papers demanding to know the location of her missing kids.
The War Room: The Ukrainian Army is on the attack near the battle-ruined eastern city of Bakhmut, pushing back the front line and leading Russian leaders to claim the long-awaited counter-offensive has begun. Ukraine denies that its big offensive has started.
Even so, Ukrainian soldiers have broken through Russian lines south of Bakhmut, now attacking Russian forces closer to the city and threatening Russian flanks to the north and south. Aerial video shows about a dozen Russian soldiers quickly retreating into a forest.
The Institute for the Study of war reports that “Several Russian sources warned that Ukrainian forces may be attempting to encircle the Wagner Group within Bakhmut.” The Wagner Group is the Russian private army that’s been throwing its soldiers into the meat grinder of Bakhmut while Ukraine has fought desperately to keep the city as a symbol of resistance at the cost of thousands of lives on both sides.
Spilled Milk: ALos Angeles high school student is suing her district and the US Department of Agriculture for infringing her First Amendment rights in a dispute over milk.
Marielle Williamson, 17, a senior at Eagle Rock High School, says she is “grossed out” by cow’s milk, so one day she was distributing literature at school promoting non-dairy milk when she was told that if she want to do that, she would also have to extoll the virtues of dairy milk. The school was already plastered with USDA milk propaganda.
“By compelling Marielle to simultaneously distribute the dairy misinformation that she seeks to refute, District Defendants have violated Marielle’s free speech rights,” her lawyers say in the suit.
Thirty years after the launch of the wildly successful “Got Milk?” campaign, the popularity of milk, particularly among young people, is dwindling, but the USDA pushes milk consumption in schools as a nutritional necessity.
Williamson says she was told she would need a doctor’s note to be given a non-dairy alternative to milk at school. She told The Washington Post, “People don’t really like to drink cow’s milk anymore, and they have other sources of dairy. My friends are plant-based for the most part, and we talk a lot about our food system.”
Closing Argument: Some graduating Law students at the City University of New York turned their backs on Mayor Eric Adams, a few even raising a middle finger in protest, because they’ve been schooled in a left wing law school and this is what they do. Adams, who rarely speaks with a prepared script said, “My message today to the graduates, my message to those who believe that their beliefs are the only beliefs in a diversified city like New York, my message to you, instead of being a detached spectator in the full contact sport called life, get on the field and participate about improving the lives of the people of this city.”
The Spin Rack: Daniel Penny, the Marine veteran who choked to death a mentally ill homeless man on a New York subway, surrendered yesterday and appeared in court on a charge of second-degree manslaughter. He did not enter a plea. — After dismantling much of the company, Elon Musk has appointed NBCUniversal ad sales chief Linda Yaccarino to take over as CEO. A lot of advertisers left Twitter after Musk took over and gutted the company. —The Food and Drug Administration has approved the first nonhormonal medication to treat hot flashes in menopausal women, a symptom that can go on for years. — A daughter of actor Jamie Foxx says that despite reports in the entertainment press, her father has been out of the hospital for weeks, although still recovering from an as-yet undisclosed ailment that had him in the hospital, also for weeks. Corrine Foxx said, “In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday!”
Below the Fold: In an online advertisement, Donald Trump opened campaign fire on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, saying, “The problem with Ron Desanctimonious is that he needs a personality transplant and those are not yet available.” Well, anyway, somebody needs a personality transplant.
