70 Percent by the 4th, He’s Alive

Viral News: With a goal of getting 70 percent of the country vaccinated against Covid-19 by the 4th of July, the Biden administration is shifting from mass vaccination sites to smaller, more targeted locations aimed at bringing in younger Americans who’ve been reluctant to get the shot.
In a speech at the White House, Biden said, ““This is your choice. It’s life and death.”
Mass vaccination locations in some states are closing for lack of demand and some states have vaccines they can’t use, but millions more Americans need to be vaccinated before life can fully return to normal. So far, just 44.5 percent of the population has been vaccinated.
Trump Watch: Like one of those zombie movies, he’s not dead. Facebook is expected to announce today whether Donald Trump gets his account back on the social media megaphone.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz dined with Trump at Mar-a-Lago and reports via Twitter that, “He’s in great spirits! We spent the evening talking about working together to re-take the House & Senate in 2022.” It’s like generals visiting Napoleon on the Island of Elba before he escaped and raised another army.
Trump’s hand appears to be on the movement to topple Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney from her position as #3 in the Republican House leadership for speaking out against the former president. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy was recorded on a hot mic saying, “I think she’s got real problems. I’ve had it with, I’ve had it with her. It’s you know, I’ve lost confidence.”
Critical Theory: As the Tennessee legislature winds down its session, Republicans are pushing a bill to make it illegal to teach what’s known as “critical race theory,” which examines the legacy of slavery and racism in America.
The Tennessee bill says schools could not include or promote instruction or curriculum teaching that the United States is “fundamentally or irredeemably racist or sexist;” or that an individual, by virtue of the person’s race or sex, “is inherently privileged, racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or subconsciously.”
Also banned would be any instruction or curriculum that says people bear responsibility for actions committed in the past by other members of their race or sex; or that a person should feel guilt or anguish “solely because of the individual’s race or sex.”
At the heart of the issue is the NY Times 1619 Project, a long research project which posits that 1619 is one of the most critical dates in US history because it is when the first slaves arrived in North America, an event that had permanent consequences. Slavery was codified in the Constitution and was the cause of the Civil War. You could even argue it led to the Minneapolis police murder of George Floyd.
Kentucky’s Sen. Mitch McConnell, who opposes teaching the 1619 Project in schools, said, “I think that issue that we all are concerned about — racial discrimination — it was our original sin. We’ve been working for 200-and-some-odd years to get past it.” He said, “We’re still working on it, and I just simply don’t think that’s part of the core underpinning of what American civic education ought to be about.”
Deferred Maintenance: The recriminations have already begun after the Mexico City subway accident that killed 24 people. On Monday, an overpass collapsed, and a train on the newest subway line plunged 50 feet.
The new line had known structural weaknesses that led engineers to warn of accidents, but the warnings went mostly unheeded by government. The people immediately taking the heat are the president and the two people considered front-runners to succeed him as leaders of the governing party and possibly, the country.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been criticized for starving the capital city of money to rebuild the subway while splurging on pet projects, including nearly 1,000 miles of railway stretching across the country.
The Spin Rack: Defense lawyers for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted of murdering George Floyd, have filed motions requesting a new trial. They’re just doing their due diligence. — Comedian Conan O’Brien is closing his show “Conan” on TBS after nearly 30 years in late night television. He’s going to host a new weekly variety series for HBO Max. — Europol said on Wednesday that 31 suspects had been arrested in an Italian-German police operation targeting the ‘Ndrangheta mafia group. The ‘Ndrangheta group is “suspected of having organized the trade in cocaine between Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and Spain using encrypted … communication tools,” Europol said in a statement.
Stop the Steal: Evidently Donald Trump’s claims of election fraud are based in reality. Florida authorities plan to charge a Pensacola high school senior as an adult along with her mother, an assistant principal, on charges that the two conspired to rig the election for homecoming queen.
The girl turned 18 last month and authorities say they can’t put her in juvenile court.
Investigators claim the mother used her access to the school computer system to help cast 246 fraudulent votes. The amazing thing is that the school’s computer system detected the fraud and that’s more bad votes than anyone has found to support Donald Trump’s claim that he actually won the vote for presidential homecoming.
