Return of the Donald, Cuomo in Trouble

False Idol: A centerpiece of the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando over the weekend was a caricatured figure of Donald Trump with gold skin and hair, red tie, American flag shorts, and flipflops. Attendees nearly worshipped at the foot of the statue.

Also a centerpiece was the former president himself, who made his first major appearance since skipping Joe Biden’s inauguration and scuttling home to his Mar-a-Lago retreat. Delivering the keynote speech yesterday, he repeated his lie that he actually won the election and suggested that he may run again. “Who knows? Who knows,” he asked. “I may even decide to beat them for a third time, okay?”

Trump peddled an image of a dystopian world in which “radical Democrats” are threatening to take your guns, mislead your children, and introduce communism. And he declared that he’s not done.

  • “I stand before you today to declare that the incredible journey we begun together we went through a journey like nobody else. There’s never been a journey like it, there’s never been a journey so successful. We began it together four years ago and it is far from being over.”
  • “For the next four years, the brave Republicans in this room will be at the heart of the effort to oppose the radical Democrats, the fake news media and their toxic cancel culture, something new to our ears, cancel culture.”
  • “We will fight the onslaught of radicalism, socialism, and indeed it all leads to communism once and for all. That’s what it leads to.”
  • “Already the Biden administration has proved that they are anti-jobs, anti-family anti-borders, anti-energy, anti-women, and anti-science. In just one short month we have gone from America first to America last.”
  • “The mission of the Democrat Party is to promote socialism. They want to promote socialism, ultimately leading unfortunately to communism.”

Trump basked in adulation from the crowd, a cult of his own personality, which toward the end of his speech chanted, “We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you. We love you.”

He said, “We had 56 unbelievable packed rallies. And nobody’s ever had anything that we had. And we started hearing, ‘We love you.’ And I asked somebody because we really like Ronald Reagan, right? He was a great president. We had others. But I said, ‘Did anybody ever say that to Ronald Reagan or to any of our great … .’ And to the best of all of these political professionals’ knowledge and pollsters. Nobody’s ever heard that yet before, man.”

Misunderstood: A second woman has come forward accusing Nuyawk Gov. Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment, putting at risk his plan to run for a fourth term.

Cuomo denies accusations by two women now and has asked the state’s attorney general and chief judge to decide who will lead an independent inquiry into the claims against him.

In a statement released yesterday, he said he’s a joker and a teaser and “I acknowledge some of the things I have said have been misinterpreted as an unwanted flirtation.”

Charlotte Bennett, 25, a former executive assistant and health policy adviser in the Cuomo administration, told The New York Times that once when she was alone with the governor in his office he asked her about her personal life, whether she’s monogamous, and if she would be open to a relationship with an older man. She said the governor, who’s 64, told her he would date a woman in her 20s.

Bennett told the Times she was certain the governor was propositioning her.

Last week, Lindsey Boylan, who had worked for the state economic development agency, renewed a standing accusation that Cuomo had harassed her on several occasions and even kissed her on the lips without permission.

One thing almost certain, if a man’s done this sort of thing twice, he’s done it even more.

Viral News: The FDA has approved the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine, adding another weapon to the drug arsenal against the pandemic. J & J’s vaccine is just one shot.

To date, 49.8 million Americans have been vaccinated, about 15 percent of the population. As of this morning, 513,092 Americans are dead of Covid-19. With 4 percent of the world’s population, the US has had 20 percent of the pandemic deaths.

The Bulletin Board: Virginia has become the 16th state to pass a law legalizing marijuana for adult use. It wouldn’t become available until 2024. — Hong Kong over the weekend charged 47 people with violating security laws. Political dissent in the former British colony amounts to “conspiracy to commit subversion.” — The Army has decided to relax its rules that require female soldiers to have short hair pulled into a “tight, disciplined bun.” The bun sometimes pushed a soldier’s helmet over her eyes. Bad for firing a rifle. The women can now get a buzz cut if they want, or wear a ponytail.

The Obit Page: Fred Segal, the Los Angeles designer who dressed the stars and people who wanted to look like them, has died at age 87.

Segal started out in Santa Monica in the 1960s selling jeans, chambray shirts, pants, and flannels.

Over the years his casual style became high fashion, and high priced. He sold beautiful stuff, but most people couldn’t afford to breathe the air in his stores.

President of Superlatives: Donald Trump is a record setter in his own mind. Everything he does, in his belief, is bigger and better than anything of its like done before. Some samples from yesterday’s CPAC speech.

-“Numbers that nobody’s ever heard of before”

-“That nobody would have even believed.”

-“The likes of which we have never seen before.”

-“Like they have never been pushed before.”

-“A movement, like has never been seen.”

-“More sprit now than we’ve ever seen.”

It’s true. We’ve seen nothing like this before.

The “Great” President

Monday, March 30, 2020

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
