World: Two American soldiers were killed and 10 wounded in another “inside” attack by an Afghan soldier during a morning meeting of Special Forces, An undetermined number of Afghans also died before the shooter was killed. At least 60 NATO soldiers died in such incidents last year.

• Ram Singh, the bus driver involved in that horrific fatal gang rape in India was found hanged in his jail cell. His family claims he was murdered. Singh was one of five adult men facing charges in the case that got worldwide attention. A 16-year-old will be tried separately.
• Chinese officials are investigating the mystery of how 2,000 dead pigs ended up floating in a river near Shanghai. They are still finding more. Authorities are testing the river’s water quality because it is a major source of drinking water for Shanghai’s 23.5 million residents.

National: The Whole Foods grocery chain announced it will start to label all genetically modified foods sold in its stores in the US and Canada. Whole Foods executive Walter Robb described a “steady drum beat” of customer demand for labeling of what are known as GMOs, Genetically Modified Organisms. California voters turned down a law to require such labeling.

• Six teenagers died outside Warren, Ohio Sunday when the SUV they were riding in hit a guardrail and flipped into a pond. Eight kids were packed into a car designed to carry five.

Headline: Because of a shortage of skilled swordsmen, Saudi Arabia is considering turning to firing squads for public executions. Saudi Arabia is the only country still using beheading as the official method. The country has whacked 15 people this year and sometimes the swordsmen are so busy travelling from execution to execution they arrive late for the event.

At The Box: Disney’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful” won the movie weekend raking in an estimated $80 million in the US, and $150 million worldwide. It looks like the big hit of the year so far. “Jack the Giant Slayer” came in second and “Identity Thief” hung in at third with $6.3 million.

Love Affair: The woman whose love affair with a prince was kept secret from a nation has died at 97 in Stockholm. Lilian Davies Craig was a beautiful married model when she and Swedish Prince Bertil fell in love during the London blitz. She divorced, but Bertil’s brother died in a plane crash, leaving a son. Bertil would be barred from being regent to his nephew if he married a divorced commoner. But they stayed together. The couple was in their 60s when the nephew became king and allowed Bertil and Lilian to marry. She wrote in her memoir,  “He was so handsome my prince. Especially in uniform.”
