Articles of Impeachment

Vol. 10, No. 8
The Trumpdown: The House of Representatives has drawn up a single article of impeachment, accusing President Trump of inciting insurrection in the mob takeover of the Capitol on Wednesday.
Steps ahead of Congress, Twitter permanently cancelled Trump’s Twitter account, the most severe punishment and censure he’s faced so far.
Impeachment will be up for consideration by the House as soon as Monday. Having already been impeached, Trump is only the third President to suffer that disgrace and he would be the first impeached twice. Trump has always claimed to be a record setter.
In a letter to every member of the House, Speaker Nancy Pelosi cited the resignation of Richard Nixon saying, “Today, following the president’s dangerous and seditious acts, Republicans in Congress need to follow that example and call on Trump to depart his office — immediately.” She said, “If the president does not leave office imminently and willingly, the Congress will proceed with our action.”
House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy of California , who voted twice to overturn Joe Biden’s legitimate win in the election, said, “Impeaching the president with just 12 days left in his term will only divide our country more.”
Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski became the first Republican senator to call for Trump’s immediate exit. “I want him to resign. I want him out. Murkowski told the Anchorage Daily News. “He has caused enough damage,”.
Sore Loser: Trump announced over Twitter, before he was cancelled, that he won’t be going to the January 20th inauguration and Joe Biden said it’s a good thing. Biden said, it’s “one of the few things he and I have ever agreed on.”
Just before introducing new cabinet appointments, Biden said of Trump,
“He exceeded even my worst notions about him. He’s been an embarrassment to the country, embarrassed us around the world. He’s not worthy to hold that office.”
In his tweet Trump announced he’s skipping the inauguration. He said only, “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
Trump was still stirring up his lost cause, saying, “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”
The Last Tweet: Twitter said in an announcement that the above message about “75,000,000 great American Patriots” violate the platform’s “Glorification of Violence Policy.”
Twitter said that refusing to attend the inauguration basically is a claim that the election was not legitimate and that, “Our determination is that the two Tweets above are likely to inspire others to replicate the violent acts that took place on January 6, 2021, and that there are multiple indicators that they are being received and understood as encouragement to do so.”
After his personal account was taken down, Trump tried tweeting from the POTUS account, a campaign account, and others. Twitter took down all the tweets like playing Whack a Mole.
Twitter also permanently banned the accounts of Trump lawyer Sidney Powell and former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Trump issued a statement suggesting he might build his own platform and that, “Twitter is not about FREE SPEECH. They are all about promoting a Radical Left platform where some of the most vicious people in the world are allowed to speak freely.”
No one knows that better than him.
The Football: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she’s had a conversation with Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, about “preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes.”
A spokesman for General Milley confirmed the conversation and said the general had “answered her questions regarding the process of nuclear command authority.”
Manhunt: A lawmaker from West Virginia and a man who broke into Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office and sat at her desk are among rioters arrested yesterday. Also arrested was a 70-year-old man from Alabama who was in possession of 11 Molotov cocktails, a semiautomatic rifle, and two handguns.
Hundreds of prosecutors and FBI agents have been assigned to hunt down and prosecute people who broke into the Capitol. The FBI has issued pictures of 10 men they’re looking for. They’re not all hard to find. The NY Post published a picture of one rioter leaving his Brooklyn apartment.
The man whose picture was taken cheerfully walking off with Speaker Pelosi’s lectern has been identified as Adam Johnson, 36, of Parrish, Florida about 40 miles south of Tampa.
The Bulletin Board: An Indonesian passenger plane with 62 people on board has gone missing after plunging 10,000 feet and disappearing from radar after taking off from Jakarta. — The US broke its single-day record for new coronavirus cases for the second consecutive day yesterday with more than 300,000 people diagnosed. Another 3,573 patients died of Covid-19. — Also here, employment fell by 140,000 jobs in the month of December, the first net loss of jobs since the massive layoffs last spring.
The Obit Page: Tommy Lasorda, a former pitcher, manager, lifelong Dodger, and enduring character of professional baseball, has died at age 93. He was the oldest living member of the Hall of Fame.
As a pitcher Lasorda started only one game for the Brooklyn Dodgers and threw three wild pitches.
He managed the Dodgers for all or part of 21 consecutive seasons, leading them to four National League pennants and two World Series championships. One of the great images in baseball history is Lasorda skipping like a 10-year-old after winning the series.
“My clothes are blue, the Dodger color,” Lasorda once told the sports author Roger Kahn. “I won’t wear red. Cut my veins, and I bleed Dodger blue. If trouble comes, I pray to that big Dodger in the sky.”
Bar Review: Dominion voting systems has sued President Trump’s conspiracy-minded lawyer Sidney Powell for $1.3 billion because she had falsely said Dominion helped rig the election. We’re guessing she doesn’t have that much money.
