Michigan Plot Busted, The 25th Amendment

Vol. 9, No. 228
Knucklehead Nation: Thirteen men have been arrested by the FBI and accused of plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and submit her to a “treason trial” for the way she placed restrictions on the state to fight the coronavirus.
Six men are accused of plotting the kidnapping and seven others face charges of terrorism and gang-related offenses in state court stemming from the abduction plot. The charging information appears to come from at least one inside informant.
Authorities say the accused are members of a militia that trained with weapons and explosives.
Instead of expressing concern, President Trump slammed Whitmer in a series of tweets, falsely claiming she called him a “White Supremacist” in her remarks, complaining that she did not thank him and saying she’s doing a “terrible job” at governing.
According to FBI charging documents, the plotters wanted to organize 200 men to storm the Michigan capitol and take hostages, including the governor. They planned to act before the November election, according to the FBI, and if they couldn’t pull that off, attack the governor at home, possibly her vacation house.
At least seven of the accused are members of the “Wolverine Watchmen” militia, but it seems they were not watching to see whether they had been infiltrated by an informant.
Debatable: President Trump says he won’t take part in the next presidential debate if it’s a “virtual” event with the candidates in separate locations as the debate commission now plans.
Still recovering from the coronavirus, Trump says he wants to hold a big rally in Florida tomorrow.
The next debate was scheduled for next Thursday in Miami, but the Commission on Presidential Debates announced that the event would be held remotely “in order to protect the health and safety of all involved.” President Trump called that “ridiculous,” even though he may still be in a contagious phase of Covid-19.
He told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, “You sit behind a computer and do a debate. It’s ridiculous. And then they cut you off whenever they want.”
We probably haven’t heard the final word on this, but Vice President Joe Biden has already agreed to appear in a town hall on ABC News during the debate time slot.
In that same Fox interview, Trump also called for the Justice Department to indict former President Obama and Joe Biden for spying on his 2016 campaign.
“These people should be indicted — this was the greatest political crime in the history of our country,” Mr. Trump said. “And that includes Obama, and it includes Biden.”
He also called vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris a “communist” and a “monster.” He said, “This monster that was on stage with Mike Pence, totally unlikable. She’s a communist.”
At long last, Mr. Trump …
The 25th: With President Trump calling for the indictment of his perceived enemies and behaving erratically, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is considering invoking the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.
The Speaker said, “His disassociation from reality would be funny, if it weren’t so deadly.”
Pelosi plans to unveil legislation on today that would commission a team of psychiatrists to review whether President Trump is mentally fit. It would be the first step in deploying the never-used removal process that requires a majority of cabinet officers to vote for him to go.
The Handmaid’s Tale: Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett has served as a “handmaid” in the male-dominated Christian group People of Praise, founded in the 1970s, The Washington Post reports.
The organization based in in South Bend, Indiana declined to confirm that she is a member, the paper says. In recent years, people of Praise removed from its website editions of its magazine, some of which included her name and photograph.
A 2010 People of Praise directory says that she held the title of “handmaid,” a leadership position for women in the community, the paper reports. Barrett is expected to be a vote against abortion rights if she’s confirmed to the court.
Viral News: The coronavirus is surging in the US again, with more than 56,000 new cases overnight and 956 deaths. Eleven states have set daily records for new cases.
Speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper, a whistleblower and former director of a federal program working to develop a Covid-19 vaccine, claimed that the Trump administration “silenced” scientists and “resisted” aggressive measures early in the pandemic to limit spread of the virus. The former official, Rick Bright, resigned in frustration and protest from the National Institutes of Health.
The Bulletin Board: A federal judge blocked an order by Ohio’s secretary of state that limited ballot drop boxes to just one location per county. — Hurricane Delta is on track to hit the Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm in an area already devasted by Hurricane Laura. — The 2020 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to The World Food Program, a United Nations agency. President Trump thought it should have gone to him. — Saturday Night Live has cancelled this week’s planned appearance of country music singer Morgan Wallen because the producers saw him on a video partying without a mask.
Thoughts and Prayers: A New Orleans priest was arrested after he was caught having sex at the altar of his church with two dominatrices dressed in corsets and high boots. The NY Post called it an “unholy trinity.”
