Military Madness, Not Black Life

Stars and Stripes Forever: President Trump is facing a military disaster of sorts after The Atlanticmagazine reported he made disparaging remarks about Americans killed in war, and the story broke that the Pentagon ordered the closure of the military newspaper, the Stars and Stripes.

The Atlantic cited anonymous sources who said they heard Trump calling the war dead “suckers” and “losers.”  Trump told reporters yesterday, “It’s a fake story and it’s a disgrace that they’re allowed to do it.”

Postings broke out all over social media about parents, siblings, and children who served and died in war. Vice President Joe Biden, running to unseat Trump, said, “How would you feel if you had a kid in Afghanistan right now?” He said, “How would you feel if you lost a son, daughter, husband, wife? How would you feel, for real?”

Trump is also “walking back”, as they say in Washington, on an order to close the Stars and Stripesmilitary newspaper. He tweeted, “The United States of America will NOT be cutting funding to @starsandstripes magazine under my watch. It will continue to be a wonderful source of information to our Great Military!”

Trump is walking back following the revelation of a military memo ordering the the shutdown of the paper that has informed US service members since it was first published for Gen. Ulysses Grant’s army in 1861.

Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, who ran European operations during World War II insisted that the military have an independent paper informing the troops and defended it against assaults by Gen. George Patton. Among the notables from the paper were the cartoonist Bill Mauldin and Andy Rooney of “60 Minutes.”

Nonetheless, the White House zeroed out the Stars and Stripes line item in its budget request and the Pentagon ordered the paper to close by Sept. 15th, including a “specific timeline for vacating government owned/leased space worldwide.”

Non-Black Life:  Jessica Krug, an associate professor who has taught as a black woman at George Washington University about Africa and the African diaspora, has shocked her university and the academic world with a blog post admitting that she is actually a “white Jewish” woman from Kansas City.

She writes in academese, “I have eschewed my lived experience as a white Jewish child in suburban Kansas City under various assumed identities within a Blackness that I had no right to claim: first North African Blackness, then US rooted Blackness, then Caribbean rooted Bronx Blackness.”

The university announced that Krug won’t be teaching this fall.

Krug writes in the post that she has struggled with lifelong mental health issues, but does not excuse herself and calls for cultural capital punishment; “I should absolutely be cancelled.”

Viral News: Health authorities are braced for the possibility that the Labor Day weekend will result in a surge of coronavirus cases similar to the 4th of July.

The US has had 6.2 million cases of the virus and another 971 Americans died of it in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 186,606. The Centers for Disease Control projects that deaths will reach between 200,000 and 211,000 by September 26th

Presidential candidate Joe Biden yesterday blasted President Trump for his handling of the pandemic and the damage it’s done to the economy. “I’ve said from the beginning we can’t deal with an economic crisis until you beat the pandemic,” Biden said. “You can’t have an economic comeback when almost 1000 Americans die each day from COVID, when the death toll was reached about 200,000, when more than six million Americans have been infected, when million more worry about getting sick and dying, and schools and businesses try to reopen.”

The Bulletin Board: Peter Strzok, who was fired from the FBI for sending anti-Trump texts, says in a new memoir that Donald Trump is a national security threat. Strzok writes that investigations demonstrated the president’s “willingness to accept political assistance from an opponent like Russia — and, it follows, his willingness to subvert everything America stands for.” — US airlines have placed as many as 700 Americans on “no fly” lists for refusing to wear masks. — Federal authorities have busted a California ring that illegally dealt in shark fins for the Asian delicacy, shark fin soup.

Mushing: Canada’s chief public health officer is advising people to wear masks during sex.

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
