Protest Shooter Down: US Marshals in Lacey, Washington last night shot and killed a man suspected of fatally shooting a right-wing activist during protests in Portland, Oregon.
The marshals said Michael Reinoehl, 48, pulled a gun and they shot him.
Within hours of the protest shooting last Saturday night, Reinoehl had been identified on social media and went into hiding.
Reinoehl later gave an interview to Vice News, explaining why he killed Aaron Danielson, a supporter of the Patriot Prayer group. Reinoehl said that he had thought he and a friend were going to be stabbed by Danielson.. “I had no choice,” Reinoehl said. “I mean, I, I had a choice. I could have sat there and watched them kill a friend of mine of color. But I wasn’t going to do that.”
Reinoehl said he was an Army veteran and father of two who had provided what he called “security” at Black Lives Matter protests. He said in the interview that on the night of the fatal shooting he and his friend were confronted by truckloads of Trump supporters, many of them heavily armed. “I’m seeing all these vehicles with hatred, people in the backs of the trucks yelling and screaming and swinging bats and sticks at protesters that are just standing there yelling at them,” he said.
Reinoehl said that after he shot Danielson, “I was confident that I did not hit anyone innocent and I made my exit.”
Suckers: When President Donald Trump canceled a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018, he blamed bad weather and said the Secret Service wouldn’t let him go. But The Atlanticmagazine reports that Trump was worried about mussing his hair and didn’t believe it was important to honor American war dead, “according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day.”
The magazine reports that, “In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, ‘Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.’” The magazine says Trump also described the dead as “suckers” for getting killed.
Trump and the White House deny it.
Econ 101: After reaching record highs, a selloff in tech stocks yesterday led to a steep slide on the stock market. The Dow Jones briefly lost 1,000 points and closed down more than 800 points. Apple was down 8 percent, Amazon more than 4.5 percent, and Microsoft, more than 6 percent.
Unemployment claims dipped to 881,000 last week, only the second time since March that they have been below 1 million.
Election Cleanup: Facebook announced that it will ban all new political ads during the last week before the November election.
The social network also said it will attempt to block posts encouraging people not to vote and it will stop attempts by candidates to falsely claim victory.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg told CBS’s Gayle King, “If people post content that broadly is trying to delegitimize the outcome of the election, either by saying things like, “Voting by mail will definitely lead to fraud” or you know, other things that basically undermine these democratic principles of methods of voting that we know are safe, then we’re just gonna add some context to those posts.”
Zuckerberg said the rules will apply to everyone, including the President.
Black Lives: Seven cops in Rochester, NY have been suspended involving the death last March of a black man who was naked and having a mental health breakdown in the street. They put a “spit hood” over Daniel Prude’s head, held him down, and he fell unconscious, dying a week later.
Viral News: Production on the newest Batman movie has been suspended because the star, Robert Pattinson, tested positive for the coronavirus.
This morning, 186,806 Americans are dead of the coronavirus, 1,054 of them since yesterday.
China Syndrome: In a dismal year for US/China relations, the Walt Disney company is hoping to make a lot of dollars and yen from its live-action remake of the heroine move “Mulan.” It can be seen only on the Disney+ streaming service, and only for an additional $29.95, but you won’t have to pay for parking.
The movie is reported to be a beautiful spectacle, but Inkoo Kang writes in the Hollywood Reporter that, “Earlier this year, producer Jason Reed said that the remake was designed to appeal to both American and Chinese audiences. The result is a creatively squeamish, pokily paced movie by committee that has four credited screenwriters, a slew of hackneyed Disney tropes and an enervating lack of emotional resonance.”
Love and Relationships: Former Republican congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine, who ran for the seat occupied by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and lost, has distinguished herself more in defeat than during her campaign.
Lorraine is an anti-abortion Christian — “pro-life” as they say — and we’ll get to the irony of that in a moment. She also wrote a book, “Making Love Great Again! The New Road to Reviving Romance and Winning at Relationships.”
She has also campaigned against mask-wearing during the pandemic and appears to be a climate change denier. She has tweeted that, “Every COVID death is another mail-in vote for Biden.”
Her website claims “she is famous for talking boldly about the destructive impacts of Liberalism and Feminism and how they’re destroying our relationships, the family – and our country on the whole.”
What she’s really famous for now is her tweet in support of the 17-year-old who shot and killed two people and grievously wounded a third during street demonstrations in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Lorraine wrote, “We need more young people like Kyle Rittenhouse and less like Greta Thunberg.”
Greta Thunberg is the young Swedish environmental activist and Rittenhouse is accused of murder.
In Lorraine’s defense, she can help you revive love and win at relationships.
