Giuliani Cronies Arrested, Just Not Funny

One-Way Tickets: Two associates of President Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani who helped dig dirt on Vice President Joe Biden in Ukraine face charges of federal campaign finance violations that touch on the Ukraine business.

Only hours after having lunch with Giuliani at the Trump hotel in Washington, the two naturalized citizens from Ukraine and Belarus were arrested at Dulles Airport outside Washington carrying one-way tickets to Frankfurt. Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman are also key witnesses in the House impeachment inquiry.

Even though he has had his picture taken with them, Trump said, “I don’t know about them. I don’t know what they do.”

“This investigation is about corrupt behavior — deliberate lawbreaking,” said William Sweeney Jr., the top agent FBI agent in New York.

Two other men are also charged with moving Russian-sourced money to state and federal candidates in exchange for potential influence.

The indictment charges that Parnas and Fruman funneled money through a company set up to illegally to hide themselves as the source, then gave the money to a pro-Trump super PAC.

Even more significantly, the two are accused of being part of the pressure campaign to remove the US ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch. She was recalled last spring and House Democrats are examining whether her removal was linked to Trump’s efforts to gain politically helpful information in Ukraine.

Parnas and Fruman are also accused of raising money for former Republican Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas in exchange for his help getting the removal of Yovanovitch. Interestingly, Fruman and Parnas were represented in court by two lawyers who defended the now-imprisoned Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

Angry Man: President Trump unleashed on Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden during a campaign rally last night with a scatological reference. He said Biden did nothing as vice president but “kiss Barack Obama’s ass.” He described Democrats as “very sick and deranged people” who were investigating his interactions with foreign leaders to “erase your vote.”

With an increasing number of Americans favoring impeachment, or at least an impeachment inquiry, Trump is lashing out at even Fox News. The network issued a poll saying a new high of 51 percent of Americans want Trump removed from office.

Trump seems to think Fox should engineer its polling to come out with favorable results for him. He tweeted, “From the day I announced I was running for President, I have NEVER had a good @FoxNews Poll. Whoever their Pollster is, they suck.”  He finished with, “@FoxNews doesn’t deliver for US anymore. It is so different than it used to be. Oh well, I’m President!”

  Believe us, we know.

Fury Unleashed: Tens of thousands of people are on the run in northern Syria as Turkey presses its attack against the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces. Dozens of Kurdish fighters and one Turkish soldier are reported dead so far. The Kurdish Red Crescent said 11 civilians have been killed.

The Bulletin Board: New wildfires broke out in over the last 24 hours in the northern San Fernando Valley outside Los Angeles. A number of homes burned and two freeways were closed. — An Iranian oil tanker was hit by two missiles today off the coast of Saudi Arabia. The resulting oil spill is reported to be under control.

The Obit Page: Francis Currey, one of the last surviving World War II veterans awarded the Medal of Honor, has died at age 94. After the infamous massacre at Malmedy in which the Germans shot 80 unarmed American prisoners, Currey was engaged in a 24-hour gunfight in which he took on German tanks and infantry using grenades, a bazooka, and a Browning Automatic rifle. He was 19 and knew how to use all of them.

Currey rescued five trapped Americans while being lightly wounded himself. He said later, “It was just one day of nine months of steady combat.”

Teed Off: President Trump is very proud of donating his $400,000 annual salary back to the government, as if he’s really saving taxpayer money. According to the website “Trump Golf Count,” Trump has taken 207 golf trips and counting, at a cost to taxpayers of $109 million. — The United Nations Secretary-General warns that the organization is facing a “cash crisis” because member countries are in arrears $1.3 billion in annual dues.

Not Funny: President Trump’s former lawyer John Dowd is being ridiculed for sending a letter to the House Intelligence Committee printed in the derided font “Comic Sans.” It is generally assumed that grownups don’t use the font that looks like this if you want to be taken seriously.

Even the font’s creator, Vincent Connare, has little regard for his own creation. He said, “If you love Comic Sans you don’t know much about typography. And if you hate Comic Sans you need a new hobby.”

Dowd signed his letter “Respectfully submitted,” which is impossible in Comic Sans.

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
