Trump Would End Birthright Citizenship

Invasive Species: As he continues to stir up election-eve fears about immigration, President Trump told the website Axios that he’s preparing an executive order to end birthright citizenship in which anyone born in the US is automatically a citizen.

Under the law, even children of illegal immigrants are citizens. Trump told Axios, “We’re the only country in the world where a person comes in, has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the Unites States with all of those benefits. It’s ridiculous, ridiculous and it has to end.”

Citizenship rights are embedded in the 14thAmendment to the Constitution, the so-called “due process” amendment. It says all people born or naturalized are citizens and Trump says he plans to waive that with a stroke of the pen.

The White House also announced yesterday that the President is sending another 5,200 troops to the southern border to protect against something that isn’t happening, an invasion of illegal immigrants.

As Trump and his supporters use fear of immigrants as a motivator to vote Republican in the midterm elections, they’ve taken to using the words “invasion” and “invaders” to refer to the migrant march headed north from Central America. The march is still 1,000 miles away with no hope of making it to the border by election day.

Keeping an eye on Fox News, CNN’s Brian Stelter says, “Fox hosts, Fox guests and GOP leaders were all talking about an imminent ‘invasion,’ even though no such thing is happening. On Fox, I counted more than 60 ‘invasion’ references since October 16. ‘Invading’ was brought up more than a dozen times.”

Fox’s own Shepard Smith, the renegade in the bunch, said, “There is no invasion. No one is coming to get you.”

Hate and Justice:  The accused synagogue shooter and mail bomber both appeared in court yesterday to face charges. The wounded Robert Bowers, who appeared in a wheelchair, was arraigned in federal court on 29 charges in the anti-Jewish rampage at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. Eleven people were murdered. The magistrate asked whether Bowers understood the charges and he simply said, “yes.”

The charges include obstructing the free exercise of religious beliefs, a federal hate crime punishable by death.

Bowers posted online vitriol about Jews. The NY Times reports that one of the Tree of Life congregants sat in the front row during the arraignment and said, “It was not the face of villainy I thought I’d see.”

Yet another bomb with the same packaging was intercepted yesterday on its way to CNNin Atlanta.

Bombing suspect Cesar Sayoc was charged in federal court in Florida with five counts: interstate transportation of an explosive, illegal mailing of explosives, threats against former presidents, threatening interstate communications, and assaulting federal officers.

CNNreports that Sayoc had a list of at least 100 more people he planned to send package bombs. They include, politicians, entertainers and journalists.

On the Rise: Incidents of anti-Semitism are increasing, from the painting of Swastikas, to online threats and the neo-Nazis in Charlottesville chanting “Jews will not replace us!”

The Anti-Defamation League says there was a a 57 percent rise in anti-Semitic incidents in the United States from 2016 to 2017.

Not so Gabby: The website “Gab” used as a hate pipeline by Robert Bowers was kicked off the internet by its server company and remains down while it searches for a new host.

Gab’s  CEO Andrew Torba posted an online defense saying, “We are the most censored, smeared, and no-platformed startup in history, which means we are a threat to the media and to the Silicon Valley Oligarchy.”

The website prides itself on allowing unfettered speech, no matter how odious. Torba went on, “It doesn’t matter what the sophist talking heads say on TV. It doesn’t matter what verified nobodies say on Twitter. We have plenty of options, resources, and support. We will exercise every possible avenue to keep Gab online and defend free speech and individual liberty for all people.”

Speaking of Speech: While we’re on the topic, President Trump continued his attack on the press, blaming the media for whipping up violent malcontents. He has an amazing ability to accuse others of his own offenses. Trumptweeted, “There is great anger in our Country caused in part by inaccurate, and even fraudulent, reporting of the news. The Fake News Media, the true Enemy of the People, must stop the open & obvious hostility & report the news accurately & fairly. That will do much to put out the flame…”

CNN’s Jim Accosta confronted Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, asking for a list of the “enemies of the people” among the press. Sanders said, “I’m not going to walk through a list but those people probably know who they are.”

During yesterday’s press briefing, the first in several weeks, Sanders said the President “got elected by an overwhelming majority of 63 million Americans.”

Actually Hillary Clinton won the popular vote with 65.8 million, nearly 3 million more than the President, who won the electoral college. That’s just reporting it “accurately and fairly.”

Lame Duck: German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has held the office for 13 years during which she has been one of the most powerful politicians in Europe, is stepping down as head of her party in preparation to be replaced in government.

After she allowed more than a million refugees into the country, the contenders to replace Merkel will probably have to appease the right wing to keep the office in her party’s hands.

Coffee Clutch:The following is from a source close to The Rooney Report who is a coffee enthusiast.

“Me at Starbuck’s today: Where is all the bagged coffee?
Employee: We’ve discontinued most of them
Me: You’re kidding, right?
Employee: No, people were not buying it.
Me: Well, I’ll be sure to let everyone know that you can no longer buy coffee at Starbucks”

The “Great” President

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
