Accuser to Testify, Reasons Why

From Chicago —

Advise & Dissent: Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser has made a tentative agreement to testify before the Senate this Thursday with some issues still to be worked out. Representatives of Judiciary Chairman Charles Grassley and college professor Christine Blasey Ford are supposed to talk again today. One of the issues is about who will do the questioning, a Senator or a hired interrogator. Blasey wants it to be a senator.

If there’s no agreement, Grassley will have to decide whether to proceed with a confirmation vote Monday, giving Kavanaugh a seat on the Supreme Court.

Ford has accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her in the 1980s while the two were in high school. Her lawyers have also demanded that the Judiciary Committee call as a witness Kavanaugh’s high school friend who she says was present in the room when she was assaulted.

Reasons Why: As President Trump and a variety of the clueless question why Christine Blasey Ford did not report a sexual assault when she was just 15, the Twitter hashtag #WhyIDidntReport has been flooded with brief explanations from people who say they never reported their assault. Here’s a sampling, and some are from men.

“He lived in my house.”

“Because it was my priest.”

“I was SURE my dad would shoot him if he knew and then my mom would be alone.”

“I was blamed and shunned serving my country.”

“He was my grandfather. What could I say?”

“Because I thought everyone would say I asked for it”

“Because I just wanted to make it go away.”

“I was 7-years old.”

“He was my Drill Sergeant.”

Nation of Immigrants: The Trump administration plans to make it harder for immigrants to come to the US or stay in the country if they need housing vouchers, food subsidies, and other “non-cash” forms of public assistance.

Immigration laws have long contained provisions limiting foreigners who are likely to be dependent on financial aid. But the proposed changes amount to a broad expansion of the government’s ability to deny visas or residency to immigrants if they or members of their household use such services as Medicaid Part D, food aid, or Section 8 housing vouchers.

News Roundup: The Army is losing soldiers to a heated job market and has missed its recruiting targets by about 6,500 so far this year. — One survivor, an engineer, was found in an air pocket inside the hull of a Tanzanian ferry that capsized three days ago. — Six out of the nine brothers and sisters of Arizona Republican Rep. Paul Gosar have endorsed his Democratic opponent saying they are increasingly concerned about their sibling’s views on immigration, health care and white supremacists. Gosar’s brother David said, “I’m just hoping either in this election cycle or next, the people get the idea that he’s just not fit for that office and he needs to be removed.”

Fore!: Tiger Woods has a three stroke lead heading into the Tour Championship in Atlanta today. He has a chance to win his first tournament since 2013. Once the number one golfer for 683 nonconsecutive weeks, the 42-year-old Woods is ranked 21stin the world

Pizza, Pizza: In what the military describes as a breakthrough for troops in the field, they have developed a field-ready pizza that can last five years in storage and be just as good as the day it was packaged. It’s called “shelf stable pepperoni pizza.”

The pizza will be included among the military’s “MRE’s,” Meals Ready to Eat that soldiers refer to as Meals Refused by Everyone. Those same scientists who brought soldiers the unidentifiable pork slice and green Chicken a la King are now offering pizza as a morale booster. In the event that American positions are being overrun, they can feed it to the enemy.

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
