New Year Agenda, Deeper Freeze

The Swamp: Congress and the President return to work with an ambitious and pressing agenda before turning to mid-term elections in the fall.

Major items include funding the government to avoid a shutdown, re-stabilizing the national health insurance program for poor children, and whether to shield the young undocumented immigrants known as “Dreamers” from deportation.

Also on the agenda are emergency relief for regions flattened in last year’s natural disasters, and the fate of an agreement to stabilize health insurance markets under the Affordable Care Act.

And shadowing the President like Banquo’s ghost is the Russia investigation.

President Trump tweeted, “The people of Iran are finally acting against the brutal and corrupt Iranian regime. Pakistan was already doing all it could to combat terrorism within its borders, the minister said. “We have already told the U.S. that we will not do more, so Trump’s ‘no more’ does not hold any importance.”

Maybe we should remind the President of his Oct. 13 tweet in which he said, “Starting to develop a much better relationship with Pakistan and its leaders. I want to thank them for their cooperation on many fronts.”

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
