Egypt Mosque Massacre, Big Upset

Permawar: At least 305 people were killed  and 128 wounded yesterday in a well-coordinated attack on an Egyptian mosque in the northern Sinai. The dead included children.

The massacre sent shock waves through Egypt, which has struggled with Islamic militants, but where attacks on mosques are rare.

The scene was described as “horrific.” Witnesses said the attackers arrived in four-wheel drive vehicles and sent at least one suicide bomber into the building.  When people rushed out of the building, they were hosed with gunfire. The attackers then waited for emergency responders and shot them as well.

No one has claimed responsibility, but the targets were Sufi Muslims, who practice a mystical form of Islam that the Islamic State and other Sunni extremist groups believe is heretical to the faith.

President Trump took the slaughter as an opportunity to campaign for his border wall tweeting, “We have to get TOUGHER AND SMARTER than ever before, and we will. Need the WALL, need the BAN! God bless the people of Egypt.”

Standoff: The White House is in a standoff with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau over who’s in charge. Director Richard Cordray, the Obama-appointed leader of the bureau, abruptly left yesterday and named his chief of staff, Leandra English, to replace him. Under law, he has the power to do that until a permanent replacement is approved by congress. President Trump then named his own Budget Director Mick Mulvaney to run the bureau he has previously described as a “sad, sick joke.”

World: An escaped circus tiger was shot dead by circus staff in a Paris railway station. The tiger was said to have been terrorizing passengers.

Thanksgiving Dinner: A 58-year-old Virginia youth pastor has been charged with murdering his family thanksgiving day. Christopher Gattis is charged with killing his wife, her daughter, and the daughter’s boyfriend. The bodies of the two women were found in the house and the man was in the yard.

The Sports Page: The University of Pittsburgh Panthers, who’ve had a mediocre season, shocked the Miami Hurricanes yesterday with a 24-14 upset. Miami had come into the game riding a 15-game winning streak that stretched into last season.

Pitt was led by freshman quarterback Kenny Pickett, who went 18-of-29 with 193 yards passing, along with 60 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

He’s the Man: The president claims he stood up for himself when Time Magazine called. Trump tweeted, “Time Magazine called to say that I was PROBABLY going to be named ‘Man (Person) of the Year,’ like last year, but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot. I said probably is no good and took a pass. Thanks anyway!”

It hasn’t been called “Man of the Year” for 18 years.

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
