Syria: Secretary of State John Kerry said yesterday in a prepared statement that Syria’s use of chemical weapons against its own citizens last week was “undeniable.” Kerry said, “What we saw in Syria last week should shock the conscience of the world. It defies any code of morality.” Officially the Obama administration is waiting for proof of a chemical attack, but Kerry’s statement is public confirmation that they believe it happened. He said, “President Obama believes there must be accountability for those who would use the world’s most heinous weapons against the world’s most vulnerable people.”

National: President Obama used the moment when he awarded Staff Sgt. Ty Carter the Medal of Honor to speak about the soldier’s battle with post-traumatic stress and to encourage other veterans to take care of themselves. “Look at this man. Look at this soldier. Look at this warrior. He’s as tough as they come, and if he can find the courage and the strength to not only seek help but also to speak out about it, to take care of himself and to stay strong, then so can you.”

• A New Mexico judge ordered the state’s largest county of 673,000 residents to issue same sex marriage licenses. Bernalillo County includes Albuquerque. This makes three New Mexico counties that either by choice or court order may issue same-sex marriage licenses.

World: Mexican authorities have identified 10 of 12 bodies found in a mass grave as those of people who were herded from a Mexico Cty bar last May. Twelve people, seven male and five female, 16 to 34 years old, disappeared from the Heaven bar in a nightclub district of Mexico City last May 26. Investigators say they think the killings were related to a crime war in the neighborhood. The co-owners of the bar and two employees have been arrested.

Last year Ko, who is now 16, kissed off a $300,000 prize because she plays as an amateur, and she just did that again, too She said she’s just not ready to turn pro. “When I turn pro it’s like a job. Money is all about it and everything like that, every shot counts.” The runner-up gets the money.
