Empire Falls: The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team, considered the unstoppable contender for a fifth straight NCAA basketball championship, was eliminated last night in the semi-final round when Mississippi State scored in the last seconds of overtime, beating UConn 66-64. The team’s winning streak ends at 111 consecutive games.

Mississippi’s 5-foot-5-inch point guard Morgan William scored the winning points at the buzzer with a 15-foot jump shot. Upon beat Mississippi by 60 points last year.

The Russia House:  On the same day news broke that a former member of the Trump Administration was seeking immunity from prosecution in exchange for his testimony, White House spokesman Sean Spicer re-asserted President Trump’s unproven claim that his wires had been “tapped” by the Obama administration.

Spicer said, “I think more and more the substance that continues to come out on the record by individuals continues to point to exactly what the president was talking about that day.” He also said, “The substance we are talking about continues to move exactly in the direction that the president spoke about in terms of surveillance that occurred.”

Without offering proof, Spicer cited news reports as evidence. Although no credible news organizations have reported that President Obama ordered surveillance or wire-tapping on then President-elect Trump, Spicer said the stories were proof that the Obama administration “misused, mishandled and potentially did some very, very bad things with classified information.”

Spicer stuck with the administration line that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian. “The substance, the unmasking and leaks is what we should all be concerned about,” Spicer said. “It affects all Americans, our liberties, our freedoms, our civil liberties.”

Hanging over the Trump administration now is the request of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn for immunity from prosecution. The words Trump and Flynn hurled at Hillary Clinton’s associates are back to haunt them.

Trump: “If you’re not guilty of a crime, what do you need immunity for?”

Flynn: “When you are given immunity that means you probably committed a crime.”

Death Comes to the Angel: Donald Harvey, the former nurse’s aide nicknamed the “Angel of Death” in 1987 after admitting he killed 37 elderly and chronically ill hospital patients, has died at age 64 after being severely beaten in prison. Back in the 1970s and 80s, before Harvey was caught, co-workers used to joke about how many patients died under his care. He used to poison them with cyanide and arsenic.

The Obit Page: Gilbert Baker, the creator of the rainbow flag that originally was the banner of the gay rights movement in the United States, died in his sleep at home in New York. Baker said the flag colors were chosen to represent human and natural qualities like yellow for sunlight and violet for human spirit.

His flag now represents a large part of the alphabet; LGBT and Q. Baker made the flag for the first Gay Freedom Day in San Francisco in 1978.

Off Color: The Crayola crayon company has retired the dandelion yellow color in favor of something in the blue family to be revealed in May. Some Crayola diehards protested and called for white to be kicked out of the box because nobody uses the white.
