Overnight: A gunman opened fire inside an Istanbul nightclub full of New Year’s Eve celebrants, killing 39 of them. Sixty-nine more people were sent to the hospital, four of them in critical condition.

The gunman entered the nightclub about an hour after midnight and opened fire. Authorities say that when he was done shooting he changed clothes and left.

No one has immediately claimed credit for the attack. The gunman appears to have gotten away. It’s the fourth terrorist attack in Turkey in less than a month.

The attack came hours after an explosion in a Baghdad market killed 28 people and wounded 50. The Islamic State claims responsibility for that one.

Information Wars: Still denying that Russian hackers tried to influence the election, Donald Trump told reporters yesterday, he knows “things that other people don’t know” about the hacking, and that his information would be revealed “on Tuesday or Wednesday.”

Trump said of US intelligence agencies, “I just want them to be sure because it’s a pretty serious charge.” Referring to faulty intelligence that led to the 2003 Gulf War, Trump said, “If you look at the weapons of mass destruction, that was a disaster, and they were wrong.”

In a remark similar to his statement that he knows more about ISIS than the generals, Trump said, “I know a lot about hacking. And hacking is a very hard thing to prove. So it could be somebody else. And I also know things that other people don’t know, and so they cannot be sure of the situation.”

Trump celebrated New Year’s Eve at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida last night. Guests paid to attend.

College Ball: Clemson crushed Ohio State 31-0 in the Fiesta Bowl to set up a rematch of last year’s national championship game against Alabama. The 14-0 Alabama beat Washington 24-7 in the Peach Bowl.

Alabama’s Crimson Tide defeated Clemson 45-40 last year in a thrilling battle. They play a week from tomorrow.

The Obit Page: Actor William Christopher, who was Father Mulcahy on the long-running television show “M*A*S*H,” has died, at age 84. He played the Catholic priest in an Army medical unit in Korea for 11 years.

Happy New Year: It’s late in the morning and we’re a little short, but leaving it at that.

2017 promises to be a fascinating year, not all of it good. Donald Trump will be President in 19 days and the Republican House and Senate will see if they can actually push through their agenda of killing Obamacare and privatizing Social Security and Medicare. Will Trump even try to build his wall? Will he ban Muslims? Will he send home 11 million illegal immigrants? Take heart in the New Year wishes he tweeted yesterday; “Happy New Year to all, including to my many enemies and those who have fought me and lost so badly they just don’t know what to do. Love!”
