No Gay, No Play; Hillary and Health

No Gay, No Play: The NCAA announced that it is removing all championship athletic events from North Carolina in the 2016-17 season because of the state’s new laws that allow discrimination against people who are gay, lesbian and generally sexually different.

NCAA President Mark Emmert said the decision was about “fairness and inclusion” and that “Fairness is about more than the opportunity to participate in college sports, or even compete for championships.”

The events to be moved to new venues include both men’s and women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s lacrosse, and baseball.

Showtime: The US flew two B-1 bombers over South Korea in a show of force to respond to North Korea’s nuclear test last week. “North Korea’s nuclear test is a dangerous escalation and poses an unacceptable threat,” Gen. Vincent K. Brooks, the commander of US in Korea, said in a statement, “The United States has an unshakable commitment to defend allies in the region and will take necessary steps to do so, including operations like this one today.”

Doctor, Doctor: While the Hillary Clinton recovers from pneumonia, her campaign announced it will reveal more detailed medical information this week. Clinton has been criticized for being overly private, possibly spawning unnecessary questions. She was diagnosed Friday and said nothing until she nearly collapsed in public Saturday.

She’s taking a second day off from the campaign today.

Clinton told only family and her closest aides. She said to CNN’s Anderson Cooper, “I just didn’t think it was going to be that big a deal.”

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod tweeted, “Antibiotics can take care of pneumonia. What’s the cure for an unhealthy penchant for privacy that repeatedly creates unnecessary problems?”

Donald Trump also promises to release medical information. He said on Fox News, “This last week, I took a physical, and I’ll be releasing, when the numbers come in, hopefully they are going to be good. I think they are going to be good, I feel great, but when the numbers come in, I’ll be releasing very specific numbers.”

The numbers are expected to be nothing less than fantastic.

The Deplorables: As expected, Trump has turned Hillary Clinton’s description of his supporters against her, and demanded an apology. “You can’t lead this nation if you have such a low opinion of its citizens,” Trump said during a speech in Baltimore in front of the National Guard Assn. Clinton had said, “You can put half of Trump supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables.”

“People who want their immigration laws enforced, and their borders secured, are not racists,” Trump said. “They are patriotic Americans of all backgrounds who want their jobs and families protected.”

Veto: The White House announced that President Obama plans to veto a bill that would allow families of people killed in the 9/11 attacks to sue Saudi Arabia for damages. Many people believe the Saudi government supported the 9/11 airplane hijackers. Fifteen out of 19 were Saudi.

The law would reverse the concept of “sovereign immunity,” which protects foreign governments from lawsuits in American courts. White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the protection goes both ways, and so would the lawsuits if Obama signs the bill. “It’s not hard to imagine other countries using this law as an excuse to haul US diplomats or US service members, or even US companies, into courts around the world,” Earnest said.

Northwest Passage: A research vessel has found the second of two British sailing ships that were lost 170 years ago on a journey to find the fabled Northwest Passage. The HMS Terror was found in more than 80 feet of water where an Inuit hunter said it would be. Much of the shop is intact and has been described as “a perfect time capsule.” Historians believe the Terror and its sister ship HMS Erebus became trapped in arctic ice.

Not Dead: With conspiracy theories running rampant about Hillary Clinton’s health, Samantha Bee broke news last night on her show Full Frontal. “Let’s get right to the big news, Hillary Clinton has passed away,” Bee said at the top of her show. “She says she’s not dead, but as we know she is a liar.”

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
