Twisters Threaten, Donald Aborts Statement

Twister: The deep South and Ohio Valley are on tornado watch again today under a storm system that stretches from north of New Orleans all the way to Columbus and Indianapolis. Tornadoes struck last night in the north side of the Tulsa, Okla. and Dermott, Ark. Some buildings are heavily damaged and power lines are down.

Fire, Ready, Aim: Already running extremely negative with women voters overall, Trump stepped on his own tongue. Already running extremely negative with women voters overall, Presidential candidate Donald Trump stepped on his own tongue.   In an interview with MSNBC, the Republican frontrunner yesterday said that in a hypothetical world in which abortion is illegal, women who have one should be punished.

Hours later, after howls of protest from both Republicans and Democrats, Trump issued a statement making a 180 degree turn, saying, abortion providers would be the lawbreakers and, “The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb.”

Fight Club: Hillary Clinton has issued a new ad airing in New York that includes a clip of an anti-Trump protester getting cold-cocked at one of his rallies. Clinton’s narration, which does not mention Donald Trump by name, says, “so when some say we can solve America’s problems by building walls, banning people based on their religion, and turning against each other (video of the punch), well, this is New York and we know better.”

Temperatures Rising: If global warming continues at its current pace, The west Antarctic ice sheet, which is the size of Mexico, could break up and cause a three foot rise in sea levels by the end of the century, according to a new study published in the journal Nature. Previous estimates had been that the breakup and rise in sea levels could take hundreds of years.

According to the study by, sea levels could rise by 12 feet during the 2200s. Cities including New York, Miami, New Orleans, London, Venice, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Sydney, Australia would be flooded.

World: The US is reinforcing Eastern Europe against an increasingly “aggressive Russia” with a brigade of American soldiers. Relations have been tense since Russia annexed Crimea and supported rebels in Ukraine.

The senior commander in Europe said the move represents “our strong and balanced approach to reassuring our NATO allies,” but in truth a brigade is just 4200 troops with heavy equipment, which is actually a token force if Russia decides to roll west.

Rest Room: A lineup of states and big companies, including Bank of America, which has its headquarters in the state, is threatening sanctions against North Carolina for its new law that eliminates anti-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Among other things, the bill requires people to use public restrooms according to the gender on their birth certificate, not the gender they claim to be.

Apple and Facebook have protested. The governors of New York, Vermont, and Washington issued bans on official state travel to North Carolina, as did the mayors of San Francisco, Seattle, and New York City.

Even the state’s attorney general said he will not defend the law, but Gov. Pat McCrory said North Carolina has been “the target of a vicious, nationwide smear campaign.”

Objects in Rear View: Chatting with Jimmy Kimmel last night, Republican candidate Ted Cruz said, “If I were in my car and getting ready to reverse and saw Donald in the backup camera, I’m not sure which pedal I’d push.”

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
