Babs Retiring: Barbara Walters, a television fixture for 50 years, is expected to announce today on her show “The View” that she is retiring in a year. The 83-year-old Walters started at a time when women fetched the coffee and went on to become one of the most powerful and well paid figures in television news. At ABC News, she became the first female network anchor. Known for her interviews, many of them fluffy, she can also pin a foreign dictator to his seat. Walters is expected to do some final specials and major interviews before she says goodbye.

National: At least 19 people were wounded, three of them critically, when gunfire erupted at a Mother’s Day parade in New Orleans. Two of the injured were 10 years old. Police are hunting the shooter.

• A draft report from the Inspector General says that IRS scrutiny of political groups went beyond targeting Tea Party and Patriot organizations. The report says the IRS focused more broadly on groups that are anti-government or seek to make America a better place. IRS officials say there was no policy-level intent to go after conservative groups. They say some lower-level employees went too far.

This Just In: After 12 years on Saturday Night Live, “Weekend Update” host and head writer Seth Meyers will replace Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s “Late Night”.  Fallon moves on to replace Jay Leno on the “Tonight” show. SNL’s boss Lorne Michaels will be executive producer for Meyers, who said in a statement, “I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car.”

The Punisher: The NY Times reports that the family of the late hockey player Derek Boogaard is suing the National Hockey League for wrongful death. Boogaard played six seasons in the NHL as an enforcer, a player paid to beat up other players, taking plenty of punishment in return. His mental state deteriorated and he became addicted to painkillers. Boogaard died of a drug overdose. His autopsy revealed brain damage caused by repeated blows to the head. The lawsuit claims the NHL is guilty of making entertainment out of an activity that causes brain damage.

BoxOff: “Iron Man 3” held on to number one with $72.5 million in sales. In its opening weekend “The Great Gatsby”, which some critics have described as “not so great”, came in number two with $51.1 million.

Finish Your Dinner: A UN report says people should eat more insects to fight hunger and pollution. The report recommends grasshoppers, caterpillars and dung beetles.
