World: At least 27 people died, including 10 Taliban, in an all-night gun battle at Karachi’s international airport. Flames and smoke poured from the airport terminal. The attack on Pakistan’s largest airport began at a cargo area and VIP lounge. The Taliban attackers were said to have been dressed as security forces. A statement from the Taliban group said the attack was “a message to the Pakistan government that we are still alive to react over the killings of innocent people in bomb attacks on their villages”. The airport has re-opened.

Nation: A husband and wife ambushed and killed two police officers inside a Las Vegas pizza parlor yesterday before killing a third person at a nearby Wal-Mart and taking their own lives. One of the killers was reported to have said, “This is a revolution, ” before opening fire on the two officers. The two shooters took the officers’ weapons before going to the Wal-Mart. After killing a bystander they went to the back of the store where the woman shot the man and then herself. Police found Nazi paraphernalia in the couple’s apartment and neighbors told reporters the two were white supremacists.

> Comedian Tracy Morgan is expected to recover from injuries he sustained in a fatal accident in New Jersey, but it’s going to take a while. Morgan underwent surgery yesterday. He’s got a broken leg, broken nose, and a broken femur. He’s likely to be in the hospital for weeks.

Children’s’ Crusade: The Department of Homeland Security is struggling to handle a surge of unaccompanied children crossing the Rio Grande Valley into Texas. The number of children sent to a detention center in Nogales, AZ, has reached about 1,000. At the same time hundreds of illegally entering adults caught by the border patrol have been dumped at a Greyhound bus station in Tucson and Phoenix. Most of the immigrants are from El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. They were moved to Arizona because of overcrowding in Texas.

Beauty Beat: Miss Nevada Nia Sanchez was crowned Miss USA last night. She’s extremely good looking and a fourth-degree black belt in the Korean martial art of taekwondo.

The Obit Page: The man who had been certified as the oldest man on earth died in Manhattan at age 111. Polish born Alexander Imich became the oldest living man on April 24 when his predecessor died. At the time, there were 66 women known to be older. Asked by the New York Times about the accomplishment of being the oldest man, Imich said, “Not like it’s the Nobel Prize.”

National Debt: Hillary Clinton told ABC’s Diane Sawyer that despite a $416,000 income, she and her husband were “dead broke” when Bill Clinton left the White House. Mrs. Clinton said the reason she charged $200,000 for a speech, and her husband $500,000 was that they needed the money to buy a house and educate their daughter Chelsea. She said, “I thought making speeches for money was a much better thing than getting connected with any one group or company as so many people who leave public life do.”

Portlandia: Thousands of bicycle riders, many of them stark naked, rode the streets of Portland, Ore. last night in the 11^th annual event known as the World Naked Bike Ride. It’s meant to protest the use of fossil fuels and promote bicycle riding. It’s also to promote tofu, healthy body image, hemp clothing, yoga, and medical marijuana and to debunk socially constructed ideals of beauty.
