MAILING IT IN: The Supreme Court’s conservative majority voted to allow the administration to proceed with plans to enforce President Trump’s executive order restricting mail-in voting as the country moves toward the mid-term elections and a lawsuit to block the order wends its way through lower courts.

  The court majority found that the Trump administration was “likely to suffer irreparable harm” unless the justices lifted a freeze that had been imposed by lower courts. They said that the states suing to block implementation of Trump’s order could not demonstrate that they’ve been harmed by rules that have yet to take effect.

  Complicating matters, Trump’s order says the US Postal Service must help decide which voters would be eligible to vote by mail, but there’s also a separate lower court injunction that prevents the postal service from implementing that. The Postal Service said yesterday that it would “not take actions to implement the rule specifically for the 2026 election” unless the Supreme Court ruled in the administration’s favor.

  But the NY Times notes that Trump is quietly trying to take control of the Postal Service with appointments to its board of governors, much as he did with the Kennedy Center for the Arts in Washington.

ECONOMIC D-Day: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent yesterday announced a campaign of economic warfare against Iran that he compared to the D-Day invasion of France. He called it an “economic asphyxiation of this regime.”

  Then he said there would be a period of “quiet diplomacy” before D-Day gets launched. So, it’s just another threat.

  Bessent said the effort would take on Iran’s economic connections around the world. “Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline that sustains this tyrannical regime until Tehran stands alone,” he told a press conference. He dodged questions on whether the US would bring down the hammer on China, which depends on Iranian oil.

  He said the sanctions would be phased in but he expects to announced discipline against a major financial institution by the end of the week.

  The secretary said the campaign would attack Iran’s “five most vital lifelines”; digital assets, technology, gold, aviation, and shipping. Bessent declared that that any entity that launders money for Iran will be removed from the US dollar system.

  Bessent claimed that Iran has “murdered and maimed” more US citizens and service members than any other terrorist regime on earth. He said, “They have been at war against America, their neighbors in the Gulf, and much of the world for 47 years.” He claimed that under the leadership of President Trump, the US is ending the Iranian threat.

  This comes after Trump and his lieutenants have repeatedly claimed to have destroyed Iran’s nuclear development program and defeated them on the battlefield without Iran surrendering or agreeing to a peace deal. Trump chimed in on social media yesterday that, “We’re winning against EVERYONE, including Iran, whose Country is in Economic and Military Death Spiral.”

— President Trump ratcheted up his trade threats against Canada posting, “Remember, much of the Electricity, Oil, and Gas that Canada gets is transported through the U.S.A. Someone should get these clowns to ‘fall in line’ or, the consequences for Canada will be far WORSE!” So … he’s threatening the same thing he threatened against Iran, cutting off the power. 

  He also said he would raise tariffs on cars, trucks, auto parts and steel from Canada to 50 percent starting January 1^st.

— The Trump administration is preparing to revoke the business and tourism visas of up to 200,000 foreigners who are seeking asylum status in the United States. The revocation would affect people who came on visitor visas and then applied for asylum.

— The State Department removed from the US Embassy in the Dominican Republic last week a painting by the noted artist Kehinde Wiley that the director of its Art in Embassies program called “very woke” and “aesthetically terrifying.” The state Department proposes to sell it.

  Wiley painted the official portrait of Barack Obama sitting in a chair against a backdrop of leaves and flowers. He has a unique and non-traditional style. The embassy painting is of four people appearing to be Dominicans against a bright flowery background. 

  Leah Campos, the US ambassador to the Dominican Republic, cheered the painting’s removal on social media with a video playing the rock anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” and calling the painting an example of “globalist and woke ideologies.”

  This reminds us that there was once a government regime in Europe that denounced modern art as “decadent.”

THE SPIN RACK: An arbitrator ordered The Washington Post to restore opinion columnist Karen Attiah to her job, ruling that she was wrongly fired for her social media posts about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. She wrote in one of her posts that, “Refusing to tear my clothes and smear ashes on my face in performative mourning for a white man that espoused violence is … not the same as violence.” It should have been “ a white man who.” — San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York, a billionaire, was busted in Ohio on his way to what he thought would be a $140 hookup with a prostitute that turned out to be a human trafficking sting. He’s reported to be divorcing his wife with whom he has two children, ages 13 and 10. — New research says that one in four players in the National Football League eventually develop the brain disease caused by concussion known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

BELOW THE FOLD: A Chinese humanoid robot on Saturday beat sprinter Usain Bolt’s 2009 world record for the 100-meter dash but crashed into a padded barrier at the end of the track and had to be removed on a stretcher.
