US Torpedoes Major Iran Warship

| WORLD AT WAR: In one of the most stunning strikes in the war on Iran, A US submarine sank an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean off Sri Lanka, killing at least 87 members of the crew of roughly 180. The Sri Lankan navy pulled 32 survivors from the water and dozens of bodies. This is the first time a US submarine has sunk a ship since World War II. What appears to be periscope video released by the Pentagon shows a massive explosion blowing the stern off the 300-foot frigate IRIS Dena, armed with heavy guns, surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, and torpedoes. Iran’s foreign minister accused the US of committing an “atrocity at sea.” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth bragged that; “We’re playing for keeps. Our warfighters have maximum authorities granted personally by the president and yours truly.” It’s one thing to wage war and another to thump your chest over the killing. “This was never meant to be a fair fight, and it is not a fair fight,” Hegseth said. “We are punching them while they’re down, which is exactly how it should be.” The Defense Secretary said the Iranian navy and air forces are crippled and, “We have only just begun to hunt, dismantle, demoralize, destroy and defeat their capabilities just four days in.” Always on the attack against the press, this time regarding deaths of US personnel, Hegseth said: “This is what the fake news misses, we’ve taken control of Iran’s air space and water ways without boots on the ground … but when a few drones get through or tragic things happen, it’s front page news. I get it, the press only wants to make the President look bad.” Two things: The death of American soldiers is top news and you can bet that we have special forces troops inserted into Iran. With the majority of Americans questioning Trump’s undeclared war, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt yesterday acted as minister of propaganda delivering an angry justification, denouncing Iran’s intentions to “destroy Western civilization itself” while listing decades of violent actions and their “blood soaked record.” Leavitt claimed “prior leaders have been too weak to address this threat” mentioning in particular “Barack Hussein Obama” in a reference designed to suggest he is something other than American. GOD’S WARRIORS: During a briefing on the brink of the Iran war a military commander “urged us to tell our troops that this was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’ and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ,” according to a complaint received from a service member by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. The foundation says it has received more than 200 such calls about commanders putting a religious spin on the war. That one complaint reported that the commander said, “President Trump has been anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth.” The Uniform Code of Military Justice prohibits injecting religious beliefs into official military instruction, but this comes from the top. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth leads a weekly Bible study. IT’S POLITICAL: President Trump said yesterday that he would endorse one of the two Texas Republicans in a runoff for the Senate nomination and advise the other to quit, essentially picking the winner. Incumbent John Cornyn is up against the righteous Christian-corrupt Attorney General Ken Paxton. Also in Texas, two-term Rep. Jasmine Crockett conceded the Democratic primary race for senator to State Rep. James Talarico, a Presbyterian seminarian and former teacher who came as a surprise onto the national political scene. Crockett is generally described as a “firebrand” anti-Trumper with a big social media presence. Talarico has more difference in approach than policy. While many Democrats are trying to whip up fury against the MAGA Republicans, Talarico has sought reconciliation with the ones who are dissatisfied. He also got a boost when CBS forbid his appearance on “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert, causing curiosity about this man who was too dangerous to appear on a comedy talk show. THE REGIME: — Senate Republicans voted down a measure to require a vote for President Trump to continue the war in Iran. The House is expected to follow suit today. — The House Oversight Committee with Republicans tipping the vote decided to subpoena Attorney General Pam Bondi to testify about the Justice Department’s handling of the case against sex-trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and the release of its voluminous files on the subject. Bondi overran a legal deadline to release the files then published some material that should not have been released while exposing names and photos that should have been redacted. — The Justice Department has been unable to build a criminal case against Joe Biden for his use of the computer-driven autopen to sign Presidential documents, disappointing the demands of President Trump who has ranted about Biden not personally applying his signature. The NY Times reports that prosectors could not bring evidence of a crime. Trump is so focused on this he even put a picture of Biden’s autopen signature in his gallery of presidential portraits instead of Biden’s face. — The NY Times reports that the Justice Department is trying to intervene with state bar associations taking disciplinary actions against DOJ lawyers. Discipline of is traditionally left to the state bars but the Justice Department, which is suspected of ordering its lawyers to skirt the law and judicial orders, also wants to be in charge of disciplining them … or not. THE OBIT PAGE: Once a fixture in college football, former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz died at 89. He led the Irish to their national championship in 1989. BELOW THE FOLD: For the sins of the father, Britain’s princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, the daughters of the disgraced Andrew, were banned from this year’s Royal Ascot horse races. The royals should have a reality show. |
