National: The Supreme Court this morning chose not to hear a case about whether there is a Constitutional right to carry a handgun. The case stems from a New York law requiring a gun owner to give a special reason to be granted a license to carry a concealed handgun.

Gitmo: The NY Times today published an Op-Ed written by a man who has been a prisoner at Guantanamo Bay for 11 years and three months without being charged with a crime. Samir Naji al Hasan Moqbel is a Yemeni who told his story through an interpreter. He is on a hunger strike and describes painful force feedings. He says, “There is no end in sight to our imprisonment.”

World: Coordinated bombings in a half dozen Iraqi cities have killed at least 20 people and injured 100, authorities say. The attacks involved mostly car bombs set off during morning rush hour.

• North Korea today celebrates what would have been the 101^st birthday of its founding leader, Kim Il-sung, grandfather of current dictator Kim Jong-un. Some analysts believed it might be an occasion for North Korea to celebrate by firing a ballistic test-missile, but so far, nothing.
• Post mortem critics of the late Margaret Thatcher managed to push “Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead” to number two on the British pop charts.

Sports Page: Australian Adam Scott became the first golfer from Down Under to win the Masters in Augusta. Tied on the 18^th hole with Angel Cabrera of Argentina, Scott had to win a two-hole playoff to be awarded the  traditional green jacket. Tiger Woods finished tied for fourth place.

• A Texas man shot himself to death in the infield Saturday night at a 500-mile sprint car race sponsored by the National Rifle Association.

Box Office: The Jackie Robinson story “42” grossed $27.3 million and broke the record for the opening of a baseball movie. “Scary Movie 5” proved to be four scares too many with a gross of just $15.2 million. The Ryan Gosling/Bradley Cooper drama “The Place Beyond the Pines” has promising numbers open so far in only 515 theaters.

Victoria’s Other Secret: From the land of l’amour and lingerie comes a report from a French University that the brassiere may be unnecessary for most women and sometimes actually harmful. The researcher measured and observed breast size, shape and angle of repose for 15 years. He concluded that the bra replaces muscle contributing to sagging. This is welcome news for many men who could never quite work the clasp.
