Trump Claims Most Successful 100 Days

TRUMP AT 100: Celebrating at a rally in Michigan yesterday, President Trump unabashedly declared that he’s had the most successful first 100 days in office of any President in US history.  “And that’s according to many, many people,” Trump said.

That’s not what the polls say. For instance, in the latest NPR/Marist poll 45 percent of respondents give Trump a failing “F” for his first 100 days.

Despite the economic chaos of his international trade war, the cruelty of his immigrant deportations, and federal employee firings, Trump crowed that; “We’re ending the inflation nightmare, the worst that we’ve had probably in the history of our country, getting woke lunacy and trans gender insanity the hell out of our government. We’re stopping the indoctrination of our children, slashing billions and billions of dollars of waste fraud and abuse.”

Trump played video of imprisoned migrants and mocked former President Joe Biden as ““Sleepy Joe” and “Crooked Joe.”

Despite shattering international relations … even with Canada … Trump said,

“What the world has witnessed in the last fourteen weeks is a revolution of common sense.”

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE:

— In an interview with ABC News Correspondent Terry Moran, President Trump said he could bring a wrongly-deported man back from prison in El Salvador but won’t despite a Supreme Court order to do so. “And if he were the gentleman that you say he is, I would do that,” Mr. Trump said. “But he is not.”

— Just before attending his Michigan rally, Trump signed an executive order giving some relief to his 25 percent tariffs on imported cars and parts. He’s keeping the tax on cars but not on metals or some parts.

— The Trump administration this week summarily dismissed more than 400 scientists and other experts who had begun to write the latest National Climate Assessment report.

— Amazon denied a report by Punchbowl News that it planned to show the additional cost to customers of items they buy. But the clarification came after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt angrily said, “Amazon is partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm.”

We imagine it’s all just fine now.

— Although Harvard told the Trump administration to take their demand about administrative and admissions policy and shove it, the university announced that they are re-naming their office of diversity and equity the “Office of Community and Campus Life.”

— The Corporation for Public Broadcast sued to stop President Trump from firing three of its five board members. Trump has denounced public radio and television as purveyors of liberal and woke ideology.

“As numerous courts have repeatedly affirmed, the Constitution gives President Trump the power to remove personnel who exercise his executive authority,” White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said in a comment emailed to NPR. “The Trump Administration looks forward to ultimate victory on the issue.”

According to arguments by the CPB, the law gives a president power to appoint members of its board, but not to fire them.

— President Trump fired several board members of the holocaust museum in Washington, including Doug Emhoff, the husband of former Vice President Kamala Harris. “President Trump looks forward to appointing new individuals who will not only continue to honor the memory of those who perished in the Holocaust, but who are also steadfast supporters of the State of Israel,” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.

Others given the heave are former Biden chief of staff Ron Klain, former domestic policy adviser Susan Rice, and Anthony Bernal, a senior adviser to former first lady Jill Biden.

OH CANADA: Canada’s Liberal party won Tuesday’s election, possibly the first foreign election to be swayed by an anti-Trump movement. Canadians are furious about Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canadian goods and his insult that he wants Canada to be the 51st state.

“As I’ve been warning for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water,”  Prime Minister Mark Carney said at in a victory speech in Ottawa, Canada’s capital. “President Trump is trying to break us so he can own us. That will never happen.”

White House deputy spokesperson Anna Kelly said, “The election does not affect President Trump’s plan to make Canada America’s cherished 51st state.”

TICK, TICK, TICK: Lawyers for President Trump and Paramount, the owner of CBS News, are expected to begin mediation today over Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit brought accusing “60 Minutes” of deceptively editing an interview with his 2024 Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.

Although the suit is considered to be baseless and a sure loser in court, Paramount appears to be interested in settling to clear the way for the Trump administration to approve Paramount’s merger with the company Skydance. Since the lawsuit Paramount, has been exerting editorial influence over “60 Minutes,” a first in the show’s history, and leading to the resignation of its executive producer, Bill Owens.

The NY Times reports that, “In an April 18 meeting, the Paramount board outlined acceptable financial terms for a potential settlement with the president, according to three people with knowledge of the internal discussions.”

THE SPIN RACK:  United Parcel Services is laying off 20,000 people as it cuts ties with Amazon in an effort to be more profitable. — A $67 million navy F-18 Super Hornet rolled into the Red Sea and was lost when the aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman turned sharply to avoid a Houthi missile. The jet was under tow in the hangar bay at the time and no one was hurt. —  British authorities decided not to bring criminal charges in the of death of Adam Johnson, a player for The Nottingham Panthers hockey team who was fatally slashed in the neck by an opponent’s skate in an accidental collision back in 2023. It took a long time to make the call that was an obvious accident.

BELOW THE FOLD: House Speaker Mike Johnson said Donald Trump’s bad poll numbers are merely an “emotional reaction” by the public to rapid change.

It's Been Said

"Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians. I love you Christians. I'm a Christian. I love you, get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years, you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not going to have to vote."
