Target Obamacare, Attacks on Christians

National: Rep. Paul Ryan said today on Fox News that the Republican House budget proposal will include a repeal of the Affordable Health Care Act known as Obamacare. “We’re going to propose replacing Obama Care with patient-centered health care, with a better health care system for everybody,” Ryan said. ” Health care reform was the signature accomplishment of Obama’s first term and the Republicans have never gotten over it.

  • President Obama had them laughing at the Gridiron Club dinner last night, a traditional Washington event in which the Washington press sucks up to the politicians they cover. Membership of the club is invitation only, and members invite the politicians to the dinner. President Obama joked, “There is one thing in Washington that didn’t get cut: The length of this dinner. Yet more proof that the sequester makes no sense.”

World: About 150 Pakistanis were arrested in Lahore in an incident in which dozens of Christian homes were set on fire. A mob went wild setting fires after a non-Muslim man was accused of making remarks offensive to the Prophet Mohammed. Christian protesters outraged by the fires also confronted the police.

  • Residents of the Falkland Islands, which lie East of southern Argentina, are voting today and tomorrow on whether to remain a British Territory. Just short of 1,700 residents of a population of about 2,900 are eligible to vote and are expected to say “yes”. It’s an effort to convince Argentina to give up its long-standing claims to the islands colonized by England in the early 1800s.  In a short and tragic war, Argentina invaded the islands in 1982 and were quickly beaten in a conflict the cost the lives of 255 Brits and 650 Argentine service men.

SXSW:  Elon Musk, founder of Tesla motors and SpaceX said that if he doesn’t get to Mars before he dies it will be a big disappointment. He said so at the annual South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin. Musk said, “I’d like to die on Mars, just not on impact.”

Passing: Lillian Cahn, creator of the Coach handbag, has died at age 89. Her first leather bag was modeled after a favorite shopping bag and her husband, who was her business partner, thought she was crazy. He was wrong. The Cahns sold Coach for $30 million in 1985 and the company reported sales of $4 billion last year.
